The 11th Group of Twenty (G20) Summit opened on Sunday in east China's picturesque city of Hangzhou. With the theme of "towards an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy," the summit is expected to discuss and reach consensus on a wide-ranging issues concerning the recovery of global economy, including how to promote trade facilitation, curb protectionism and boost cross-border investment. Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired the summit and delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. "Dear colleges, now I announce that the G20 Hangzhou Summit opens, " Xi said. Initiated in 1999, G20 includes 19 individual countries -- Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States -- along with the European Union. The summit was launched in 2008 when the international economy was plunged into a crisis. Prior to the summit, finance ministers and central bank governors would meet every year to discuss international fiscal and monetary policies, financial institutional reform and world economic growth. Apart from G20 members, some guest countries and international organizations also attended the summit. The guest countries include Chad, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Laos, Senegal, Singapore, Spain and Thailand. The international organizations include the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, the Financial Stability Board, the International Labor Organization, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
