2016 has been a challenging year for Singapore. DBS Senior Economist, Irvin Seah, expects 2017 to be a year of consolidation where growth has bottomed but will remain tepid. This is primarily due to challenging global conditions such as stronger US trade protectionism, tightening monetary policy from the FED and a slowdown in China. We expect the government to introduce new policy measures based on the recommendations of the Committee of Future Economy and in the Singapore budget announcements, to help businesses improve local value creation and expand overseas.
