A Roadmap for Driving the Nation Out of Economic Gridlock - A Talk with Woody Brock

Internationally renowned economist Woody Brock will offer his best advice on how to break America free from the partisan stalemate over economic policies. CHESTERTOWN, MD—Horace "Woody" Brock -- renowned economist and valued advisor to government and corporate leaders around the world -- will on Tuesday, April 16, deliver the annual J. C. Jones Seminar in American Business Leadership at Washington College: "American Gridlock: Why the Right and Left are Both Wrong." Described by a London Times columnist as "the economist who should be required reading" for business leaders both inside and outside government, Brock will talk about how to bridge the deep political divide over pressing issues of massive debt, high unemployment and anemic economic growth, and will present his plan for getting us out of the current economic quagmire. His talk, which will begin at 5:00 p.m. in Hynson Lounge, Hodson Hall, is free and open to the public. "Woody Brock's thinking cuts through the political cant," says Adam Goodheart, Hodson Trust-Griswold Director of the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience, which is co-sponsoring the event. "We are eager to hear what he has to say about this difficult time in our history." Founder and president of the economic think tank Strategic Economic Decisions, Brock is the author of American Gridlock -- Why the Right and Left Are Both Wrong, Commonsense 101 Solutions to the Economic Crises (Wiley, 2012). As a public speaker, Brock is known for his ability to take complex and counterintuitive concepts and make them easy to understand. He is known not only for his work explaining the machinations of global markets, but also for his theories on the economics of social justice. His publications are read by business leaders around the world and his op-ed pieces have appeared in The New York Times and The International Herald Tribune. Brock earned his B.A., M.B.A. and M.S. from Harvard University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University (mathematical economics and political philosophy). He studied under Kenneth J. Arrow at Stanford University, and the late John C. Harsanyi at the University of California, Berkeley, both winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics. Brock's lecture is sponsored by the C.V.
