So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action - Don't be indifferent! Spanish Fork, Utah county, northern Utah, U.S., situated about 8 miles (13 km) south of Provo. The city takes its name from the Spanish Fork River, along which the Spanish missionary-explorers Francisco Domínguez and Sylvestre Vélez de Escalante traveled in 1776 to conduct a survey of the region. In 1854 Mormon settlers established a fort alongside the river, around which a town grew. Prosperous farms and food-production industries provided the economic basis for the city until the late 20th and early 21st centuries, when technology and defense-related manufactures took a more prominent role. The city’s population has increased dramatically since 1990. People during JDRF fundraise, because they want to see a cure, better treatment, easy life for their kids and for everyone, who has T1D. Teenagers volunteer during the walk, because they want to see a cure and help everyone with T1D. The walk is especially important for those, who are newly diagnosed and during the walk they feel, that they are not alone in their problem. Whole school communities joined the walk with the single goal – ultimate cure for T1D people. T1D families know, that living 24/7 with diabetes is no picnic. JDRF walkers want to get to the point, where no one else will get T1D. People walk with JDRF to support T1D research. JDRF prioritizes its funding for type 1 diabetes research in four interrelated therapeutic areas: autoimmune therapies, β-cell therapies, prevention of complications, and glucose control. Each therapeutic area encompasses a diverse portfolio of research programs that span from exploratory to preclinical proof-of-principle and on to clinical proof-of-concept research. The organization’s overarching strategy focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges, catalyzing innovative and transformational research, advancing and translating research, creating collaborations, and accelerating time lines at all stages of research development. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone people need to get energy from food. T1D strikes both children and adults at any age and suddenly. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Though T1D’s causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers play a role. There is currently nothing you can do to prevent it, and there is no cure. Type 1 diabetes strikes both children and adults at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.
