미 대통령 선거 후 처음 만나는 APEC멤버 정상들... 미국의 미래 정책에 대해 고심할 예정 Leaders of APEC members will be gathering in the South American country of Peru this weekend. This year's meeting garners extra attention as it is the first meeting between the U.S., China, Japan and Russia since Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election - something that will be on the minds of world leaders as they gather for this trade summit. Our Connie Kim is in Lima tonight. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum was first created in 1989 to support the growing interdependence among Asia-Pacific economies. Now, the group has grown to comprise 21 Pacific Rim economies that account for 57-percent of the world's GDP. This year's APEC summit that takes place in Lima, Peru for the second time, is putting four priority areas on the top agenda: human capital development, upgrades for small and medium-sized enterprises, a regional food market and regional economic integration. U.S. President Barack Obama will be attending the meeting, his last APEC summit as head of state, along with other world leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Korean president Park Geun-hye will be absent from the summit for the first time amid the growing domestic political scandal. Instead, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn will be attending. This year, one of the topics to dominate the APEC forum is expected to be U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's future policies,… as the summit will be the first time leaders from Washington, Beijing, Tokyo and Moscow get together since the U.S. presidential election. During his presidential campaign, Trump spoke in favor of protectionism and pledged to have the U.S. withdraw from existing trade and security treaties, raising concerns among business and political leaders. Officials from the Obama administration confirmed Washington will stop pushing ahead with the Trans-Pacific Partnership, meant to lower trade barriers among fast-growing Asian economies. On the other hand, China's deputy foreign minister said President Xi would use the APEC summit to garner support for the Being-led Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. "Amid uncertainties lingering,.... 21 APEC members and business leaders will gather their heads together to prepare for a new geopolitical order and seek ways for regional economic integration, which is one of the set priorities for APEC this year.
