ASEAN Economic Integration is planned to be accomplished by 31 December 2015. The Integration is characterized by free flow of goods, services, investments, capital and skilled labour. This video clip discusses the implication of the ASEAN Economic Integration for workers in the region, while also advocating for solutions to prevent potential negative impacts for workers. The participation of trade unions in the decision making processes in ASEAN through social dialogue is crucial, not only to ensure workers interests are taken into consideration but also in achieving a truly peopled oriented ASEAN Community that benefits all people in ASEAN countries. ASETUC is a council of trade unions founded in 2007 by three Global Union Federations (GUF) in the Asia and Pacific Regions, namely UNI (Union Network International), BWI (Building and Wood Workers’ International) and PSI (Public Services International). It has affiliates and partners in 8 ASEAN Member States. In 2014, ASETUC introduced the slogan “ASETUC Cares!” in order to promote the rationale of its establishment, which is to advocate for the integration of a social dimension in the establishment of ASEAN Community. For more information about ASETUC, visit www.asetuc.org. The video clip is a cooperation between ASETUC and the German political foundation, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), the Office for Regional Cooperation in Asia.
