Issue Accomplishments of creative economy in the past year and its outlook The biggest story in the whole economy this year was 'creative economy.' The core strategy of the creative economy is to create new markets and industries by incorporating the nation's imagination and creativity into science technology and ICT technology. The government has announced to foster business start-ups and venture companies by allocating about 40 trillion won of its budget in the next five years. It has been engaging in various related projects such as opening a 'creative economy town' that supports people's ideas to lead to actual creation of business start-ups, 'creative economy exhibition' that put together actual outcome of the business start-ups as well as 'infinite imagination rooms.' It has been a year since the Park Geun-hye administration has put forward creative economy as the government's core national agenda. We will look back on what policies the government has taken and what accomplishments have been made in industries as a result of these policies in the past year. We will also discuss what directions the government is expected to take from now. Interview Looking back on South Korea's economy in 2013 Interviewees: Shin Se-don, professor at Sookmyung Women's University/Lee Doo-won, professor at Yonsei University This is the first year of the Park Geun-hye administration. The government has put forward revitalization of the economy and stabilization of people's livelihood as its banner. But it faced a lot of challenges and crisis. First of all, the global economy suffered as major countries competitively adopted quantitative easing to stabilize their economies. In particular, Japan's Abenomics came as a big threat to South Korea's economy as Japan is South Korea's closest neighboring country and the two economies largely affect each other. So how did South Korea deal with Abenomics in the past year? And in the end, was it more of a positive or negative factor for South Korea's economy? Moreover, we will have time to look back on the domestic and overseas events that occurred in 2013 and talk about their implications. These events include an announcement of the Federal Reserve's exit strategy, global economic crisis including talks of economic crisis in emerging countries, and discussions on South Korea's economic democratization.
