This video shows the acceleration and fuel economy of the brand new, 2014, BMW X5 3.0d. Yes, I know the engine wasn't fully broken in yet, but it was completely at operating temperature. Trust me; a couple of acceleration passes won't hurt it. I had the opportunity to make this video with this car, so I did. You also see the fuel economy at highway speeds. Look for it, mid center at the bottom of the speedometer. Remember; they're in metric. There was a pretty severe headwind although the car was very quiet. Expect to see around 8 liter per 100 kilometer (around 29 mpg) when there's less wind. She'll probably be a little more fuel efficient when there are more kilometers on the odometer. For such a heavy car it's acceptable, in my opinion, and it's better than the previous X5. Never the less; this is a very powerfull and smooth engine. You wil be faster than most other road users. It just feels so much smoother than the 4-cylinder, this engine is worth the extra money. Trust me. If you're looking to spend this much money on a BMW, spend a bit more for a 6-cylinder. It will probably be more desirable when it comes to trading in. Overall the new X5 feels much more comfortable and planted than the outgoing model, which was a great car too. If you're in the market for an SUV; make sure that the new X5 is on your list. The inline 6-cylinder diesels are always a good choice. If you're in the States; take the V8. Any questions; let me know.
