The Chinese economy posted lower-than-expected growth last year,... for the first time since 1990. But the world′s second largest economy isn′t alone when it comes to weak economic growth. Our Shin Se-min reports. China has registered its lowest economic growth in 24 years,... expanding just 7-point-4 percent last year. Although it missed the government target by just a tenth of a percentage-point,... it was the first time in 16 years the economy had missed the target. However, the head of China′s National Statistics Bureau is optimistic. Saying that 7-point-4 percent growth isn′t a low level compared to other countries,.. Ma Jiantang said his country′s economy would keep its "inexhaustible momentum" this year. "More importantly, we must see the potential and conditions, especially the solid foundation, inexhaustible momentum and continuous innovation of the government′s macro-regulation for China′s economic growth to maintain a moderate to high speed in the long-run and advance towards the high-end." China′s economic data corresponds with revised predictions for the global economy from the IMF on Tuesday. The fund made a sharp cut to its projections to 3-point-5 percent this year,... down from its previous estimate of 3-point-8 percent made in October. The organization lowered its expectations on the back of the slowing Chinese economy,... the mounting recession in Russia and a weak European economy. The institution ratcheted down the forecast for next year as well... to 3-point-7. The IMF downgrade comes just a day after the World Bank slashed the global growth forecast to 3-percent from 3-point-4,... warning that the world economy is heavily dependent on the U.S. economic recovery. The lowered outlook is expected to impact the unemployment rate across the world. The World Employment Social Outlook report by the International Labor Organization said that over 210 million people will be left without jobs by 2019,...up from around 200 million today.
