The government spent billions of dollars on a virtual replica of Manhattan in the city of Tianjin in the Yujiapu financial district. But looking around one its major intersections and you see what’s missing — the people. When construction began in 2009, thousands of workers were building these skyscrapers modeled after some of New York City’s most famous buildings. Today, there are few signs of construction. Even the buildings that look finished, sit empty. The Chinese government denies reports this project has run out of money, but there’s a huge gap between their vision and reality. China’s real estate market is declining in some areas, leaving more and more so-called “ghost cities,” often the result of wasteful construction — too many buildings — and not enough tenants. Because real estate has been fueling China’s economic growth, a slowdown will affect a long list of industries. As exemplified by this empty financial district, it’s just one alarming sign of bigger trouble for the world’s second largest economy.

actually to find a ghost build in any cities in china is really hard job .the building show in video now is a very hot place . why china does not have such place like in video talked ? firstly you have to know what is socialism.socialism in china actually is hybrid system from capitalism and Communism . sometime the location of real estate property cannot get much interesting from people .then goverment may use communism way to help that place . such like force to move famous school and hospital even university or open a sub- division to that place (because in china best schools hospitals universities all owned by status ) . most time that place will be quick hot after those action . but may some place really not luck suck near crematorium grave or waste incineration plant. then government will not sale those land . those land will use to build social security house .those house will sale in a very cheap price or offer as a very low rent rate (almost free ) .no more 10 years . those place will soon from farmland to be a mature living community.

China always focus on long term development. These cities are built by private companies so it's not at the risk of losing money for the government. I bought 2 stores in a city once was thought to be a ghost city 5 years ago.now the price 4 times. It's worth.

no. it is totally different from manhattan. chinas big cities are more modern and clean. with beautiful building designs and an own culture. Westerners don't be envious. america and europe have destryed thier culture and their people identity.

I always find these stories interesting, as its always from western media perspective and notion. I think some of these cities are absolutely beautiful designed like this one and I'm sure in about 10 or 20 years times it will be full. I think in long run it will benefit the chinese economy as the middle class continues to grow and more industry is built around these new cities of which many are located away from the main cities of the province. I have to say my favourite city I have seen is the replica cities of Paris, the homes and chateau are top knotch and high quality.

These ghost cities represent small cities or towns with fewer population. Young people like to live in big cities for higher income. The house prices in large cities are very high, but in small towns like these are very cheap and affordable. The problem is young people don't like to stay in small towns, so there are some small towns like "ghost city".
