From her childhood ambition to sail solo around the world, to a record-breaking career in sailing, Ellen MacArthur is now focusing on her most challenging project yet. Ellen has launched the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to accelerate the transition to a regenerative circular economy. The circular economy aims to eliminate the concept of waste by changing design choices and creating new, innovative business models. The One Young World Summit 2014 took place in Dublin, Ireland. The Summit brought together 1,250 young leaders from 190 countries to debate and devise solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems. Let me explain you the following: There was a time when artisans had their own tools, and they produced and sold goods. Then came the industrial revolution, and corporations had the tools. All that people had was their own bodies, their own labor, to sell (rent). Without big corporations exploring people's labour, these workers would starve to death without ever being able to survive by their ownselves.
Now she comes and proposes what I always feared: the natural evolution of that system, where corporations owned the world, and the normal people would rent everything: you don't own a car, you're doomed to pay for it's rental for your whole existence. You don't own the light bulbs in your own house, you're renting them from a big utility company - never mind living off the grid!! You don't own your own house, you're obliged to rent it 'till the last day of your life. Good bye, inheritance. Hello never ending debts.
This system she is proposing is a complete nightmare for normal people... It's taking the liberty away from people and making us for ever slaves of corporations.
