Confessions of an Economic Hit Man: How America Really Took Over the World (2005)

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is a book written by John Perkins and published in 2004. It provides Perkins' account of his career with consulting firm Chas. T. Main in Boston. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0452287081/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0452287081&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=ab939fb679be29afb227855e69821229 Before employment with the firm, he interviewed for a job with the National Security Agency (NSA). Perkins claims that this interview effectively constituted an independent screening which led to his subsequent hiring by Einar Greve, a member of the firm (and alleged NSA liaison) to become a self-described "economic hit man". According to Perkins, he began writing Confessions of an Economic Hit Man in the 1980s, but "threats or bribes always convinced [him] to stop." According to his book, Perkins' function was to convince the political and financial leadership of underdeveloped countries to accept enormous development loans from institutions like the World Bank and USAID. Saddled with debts they could not hope to pay, those countries were forced to acquiesce to political pressure from the United States on a variety of issues. Perkins argues in his book that developing nations were effectively neutralized politically, had their wealth gaps driven wider and economies crippled in the long run. In this capacity Perkins recounts his meetings with some prominent individuals, including Graham Greene and Omar Torrijos. Perkins describes the role of an EHM as follows: Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly-paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and other foreign "aid" organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet's natural resources. Their tools included fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization. The epilogue to the 2006 edition provides a rebuttal to the current move by the G8 nations to forgive Third World debt. Perkins charges that the proposed conditions for this debt forgiveness require countries to privatise their health, education, electric, water and other public services. Those countries would also have to discontinue subsidies and trade restrictions that support local business, but accept the continued subsidization of certain G8 businesses by the US and other G8 countries, and the erection of trade barriers on imports that threaten G8 industries. In the book, Perkins repeatedly denies the existence of a "conspiracy." Instead, Perkins carefully discusses the role of corporatocracy.[2] -- November 4, 2004 interview I was initially recruited while I was in business school back in the late sixties by the National Security Agency, the nation's largest and least understood spy organization; but ultimately I worked for private corporations. The first real economic hit man was back in the early 1950s, Kermit Roosevelt, Jr., the grandson of Teddy, who overthrew the government of Iran, a democratically elected government, Mossadegh's government who was Time's magazine person of the year; and he was so successful at doing this without any bloodshed—well, there was a little bloodshed, but no military intervention, just spending millions of dollars and replaced Mossadegh with the Shah of Iran. At that point, we understood that this idea of economic hit man was an extremely good one. We didn't have to worry about the threat of war with Russia when we did it this way. The problem with that was that Roosevelt was a C.I.A. agent. He was a government employee. Had he been caught, we would have been in a lot of trouble. It would have been very embarrassing. So, at that point, the decision was made to use organizations like the C.I.A. and the N.S.A. to recruit potential economic hit men like me and then send us to work for private consulting companies, engineering firms, construction companies, so that if we were caught, there would be no connection with the government. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confessions_of_an_Economic_Hit_Man

I like the fact that this guy is exposing so much and speaks so well but...isn't it ironic that he said Osama was a mass murderer yet in his previous videos he has mentioned saddam being a ex cia agent that was with the USA for a long time? And he didn't succumb to the demands of the USA so thy went in for the kill.blah blah you know the rest. ...and to point out also that this man is very knowledgable but I don't understand why he thinks Osama is the bad guy ? Most common people now know the truth , the 9/11 drama was an inside job etc etc amongst many other things ...I don't understand that.

This man speaks well with a great deal of authority on this global problem. I however, would like to cite a point not so much of difference with him, but one of observation as
to what he did not mention. Like so many who really do a good job of pointing out historical injustices here and abroad, he to me expresses a, how shall I say, slightly maudlin sentimentality for the white males revered by so many as the 'founding fathers' of this 'democracy'. There have been assertions by a number of historians that among others Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, and a number of other aristocrats harboured serious reservations and even expressed hostility to the idea of common people having a controlling influence in a democracy. In fact, a number of historians claim Mr. Jefferson remarked at one time that democracy was nothing more than mob rule in which the majority could openly abuse the rights of a minority (I doubt he was envisioning ethnic/racial 'minorities'). In all fairness I must acknowledge with great
respect the intensely held beliefs and views of such men as Thomas Paine (whose views on the constitution and religion resulted not only in marginalization, but the attendance of only five people at his funeral and the acceptance by only 1 cemetery of his dead body!)
These guys are my heroes for this particular cycle of American History! They were the instigators, real revolutionaries, and spearheaded the boycott of the Constitutional Convention (see Conspiracy at Philadelphia, pdf Gary North) which was followed by real
"Civil War' for four years (Shay's Rebellion 1787, and the so called 'Whiskey Rebellion' of
1791-94) ending only when George Washington emerged from the white house in full military dress (the only chief executive to do so!) mounted in front of 15,000 federal and
state militia to quash that 'uprising' as it was referred to .
I think if one starts with the investigation of history's missing pieces they were not taught, we can have a better understanding of the larger picture of the underlying causes of present conditions which are of such concern to so many and where this American empire building, which no doubt was fathered by Andy Jackson's "Manifest Destiny', began the wind sowing for which we will soon reap the whirlwind globally!

The majority of those people in Africa who are dying are black children. We don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that. WHY are we not adequately aiding them? We do more harm than good.
Many people know about how the blacks have been treated and are still being treated around this world. What are we really doing about it? We have known about this for quite some time and we still intentionally choose not to do much of anything about it. We all know why. It's sad that those mostly in power who hold influential positions are the ones depressing a whole race of people from meeting their full potential though selfishness, greed, racism, and manipulating government laws and policies against them. As long as we refuse to get together enough to help the blacks here in America, how can we get together enough and kick out these one percenters from controlling us. We all need to do this together. But, not if we continually keep stepping on the necks on a whole race of people who can help us if we empower them as we have empowered others here in America. We financially aid the Jews, the Indians, Women's groups and the Gays. Why not the Blacks. We think they deserve what they get in life even though they have been through so much more. -

Firstly Saddam wasn't crazy. He was a real man who knew what was going to happen if he accepted the deal. He probably knew he was going down but he would go down fighting. He never like the USA and would never suck them off.
Coming to this guy it doesn't really matter what he says. There are a lot of people like him. They are labelled over the top conspiracy theorists or mad men. Besides what are we going to do after watching this? We will discuss it with a few friends and then get distracted by the very things this empire has created ... products, services, media etc. The empire has way too much power today for us to do anything. They will not be affected by one guy. -
One great organization is FreedomForceInternational.org. Join, follow the guidelines, lead.

When he spoke of Iraq, he said Saddam denied the economic hitman, so then why did we gave him weapons in the 70s-1980. Can anyone explain this?
-
What's the catch here? How is this guy allowed to sell books & publicly speak on this topic without getting killed?
-
Too little true too much fiction.
