Dambisa Moyo: Is China the new idol for emerging economies?
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
The developed world holds up the ideals of capitalism, democracy and political rights for all. Those in emerging markets often don't have that luxury. In this powerful talk, economist Dambisa Moyo makes the case that the west can't afford to rest on its laurels and imagine others will blindly follow. Instead, a different model, embodied by China, is increasingly appealing. A call for open-minded political and economic cooperation in the name of transforming the world. the problem with the west interviening is abuse of the foreigners - crony capitalism.

It is NOT that the west don't know. It is that they don't want the 3rd world to grow. No nuclear power and no coal burning = no growth. That is why they invented climate change. They force it on China blackmailing China with WW3. China had to sign it to stop WW3 in the Iran deal. Now Trump is blaming it as a Chinese invention because they never thought China would beat them by producing more solar panels than them. They planned to dominate the green business but China keeps messing up their plan through pure strength.
Africans should know best because it is not that you are not hardworking, it is that you have been fooled by them. Imperialism is the cause. Don't worry. The Chinese government are ruled by geniuses of strategy. China will bring the world up, or we will fight them to the death with the help of the world. -
As an Ethiopian i completely agree with her. It's always good to listen to other brilliant Africans. My country has great partnership with China. And it has lifted us out of poverty. We are using the Asian model as a form of economic development in our country. Unfortunately, we face many oppositions from the outside world, especially from places like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Eritrea, Somalia, etc. But, our government is way to smart for these losers!
However, i do want to speak on a particular top she mentioned. Basically, the idea that without economic freedom it's difficult to have political freedom. The dissidents from the west are obsessing over Ethiopia's so called "human rights abuses." It's interesting to me that all of a sudden they are concerned about political rights in the country, but prior to now they never cared. Egypt has been casing so much problems in the country. We're building a dam on the Nile river (which originates in Ethiopia), this dam will lift Ethiopia out of poverty and provide electricity to 75% of the populace and the rest will be sold to our neighboring countries. This has completely enraged Egypt who initially threatened to go to war with us but changed their minds and have made their plans even more sinister. They pay insurgents, dissidents, and rebels to overthrow the democratically elected leaders. They have burned down factories and killed several Chinese workers!
They are instilling ethnic hatred so as to encourage the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia to become their own country. Can imagine the civil war a lives that will cost? We already had a civil war which in turn created Eritrea. The Egyptian government were all caught on camera discussing their entire plan to keep Ethiopia distracted from completing that dam. To bad for them the dam will be complete next year and operation will start soon after. hahahaha.....Losers! Anyways, i write all this to say, that economic freedom is necessary for political freedom. I have always said that and i'm glade she's sees it that way too. Brilliant lady and i'm learning so much from her. -
she is not too smart

Just because 2 systems are fundamentally differently, doesn't mean one have to be right and the other has to be wrong. What's wrong with some long term planing and regulated market if it works?
-
at 9:08, she does not specify whether the per capita income is in terms of PPP or nominal. I personally think no system will succeed unless we reduce world population to a manageable level along with other efforts.

One large detail about Western countries that people often overlook, is that most of them were not Liberal Democracies until after they had already developed a large middle class.
America itself only truly made progress to get rid of Jim crow, ensure voting rights, and equality once it had already become a superpower after WWII. The fact is, there is no country in the word that achieved first world status before becoming a Liberal Democracy. If in the future India achieves first world status, they will be the first and probably the only country in the history of the world to do this.
China's growth and political progress is going in the same direction as America. When America was still industrializing (like China is today) they still had Jim crow, women and minorities could not vote, and worker rights were brutally oppressed. In the future, when China's middle class becomes the majority in the country we will see if they start to demand Liberal Democracy. -
In some respects maybe, but cities with so much smog you dont even see the sun can hardly be something to strive for.

打开了新世界的大门。美国的民主经过了176年 现在依据有歧视的地方,一个国家的政治自由 民主 不是说变就变,经济基础有了 百姓才会追求自由

Why the mainland can not be democratic? I come to answer. Remember, in the late Qing Dynasty China began the democracy of. Later during the period of Beiyang government, Sun Yat Sen wasn't holding democratic to the mainland?. So the mainland is not completely free of democracy and human rights, but why not? First of all, there is a historical reason, the back of the Soviet Union, can more directly affect China, China wants to achieve a peaceful development of the external environment, it is necessary to establish a pro Soviet Chinese government. This is the place where Jiang Jieshi can not see clearly, if Jiang Jieshi is not pro american and pro Su, then there is no matter what the Chinese Communist party... Just think, if China's pro american, what will happen? Well, it's easy to see Ukraine. So you jipinjiruo countries must join with a power to stabilize the world situation, then of course the election of the Soviet Union, who let it is closer to China?. Otherwise Soviet tossing every day you hit you, scold you, motionless also supports Xinjiang independence of Tibet, Inner Mongolia and independent. How can we have peace of mind to make economic development? We have so many people how to feed?
Second, in order to avoid minority independence well, now autocratic centralization, United States of America, England, Japan and India also persuaded the minority independence, true democracy, the people affirm that human rights above sovereignty, calling for a referendum on independence, homeland of a few half, our inland 1.2 billion Han Chinese take what feed?
Third, China is a country with a large population, to perfect the system can only satisfy most people, assuming that only 10% of the population can not meet, it is a huge problem for 1.3 billion people, so it must be a small part of the people are not satisfied with, even if the development of China is good, some people who are against the government, China once democracy. These are social marginalization of vulnerable groups will be in support of foreign forces under group party. When the traitors, for foreigners do. Arrived U.S., Russian, British India and Japan and other countries have come to China to find spokesmen for the interests of, all the political friction, conveying a variety of interests, we also how the development of the construction of We also talk about what big country dream?
So I suggest you Taiwanese, or use your head, western democracy really in China is feasible, that of China in the Republic of China is a prosperous, human rights and democracy again good, in China no feasibility is useless. You are not satisfied with the one country, two systems.. Just hand over the power line, the rest of you play your own.. Just don't imagine Hong Kong accounted for students that want to choose a pro Western SAR chief executive, obvious tells them, in the land of China, does not allow any pro foreign forces exist, does not allow any pro foreign local regime. When the party does Pro Soviet, has also been Pro beauty, it is a last resort, now China's comprehensive national strength of the third world, we don't have to kiss the foreign, as long as we peaceful and friendly diplomatic situation is enough.
Better hurry "one country, two systems" peaceful reunification, and I know with you Taiwanese didn't speak with, the United States will not make you independent, nor will it allow you agree, but I believe that as long as the Chinese people on both sides to work together, there is always one day in China, the great power of Taiwan will be able to return to peace. Blood is thicker than water a milk compatriots, really do not want to see the unification of force that day.. So as long as you are willing to negotiate a peaceful reunification of the mainland, the mainland will be the highest preferential policies, the highest sincerity, to make the greatest efforts to overcome the biggest obstacle to welcome your return to the motherland. If the return of Taiwan, China's comprehensive national strength will be more on the floor. ? -
if this woman was any more open-minded, her brains would fall out. Centralized economic control is the bane of Humanity's existence. individual freedoms are dependent upon open free markets that are free from centralized control. China happens to be a perfect example of the opposite of such free open markets.
-
Really??? amazing China??? GO FUCKING LIVE IN CHINA.
-
When the US dollar collapse. People will change their minds with capitalism and so called democracy, these words have been abused. It's nothing but illusion, resulted from WW2 and Cold War propaganda.
-
Economic development is how ANY form of government is able to last beyond being a thought. Totalitarian governments rely on economics as much as any democratic government. If people are starving, the government gets overthrown eventually.
-
Interesting she is talking about China like an expert without actually been to China, her travel map shows around China but not in China

correction to be made, Taiwan is not a country, Taiwan is a province of China.
