David Harvey "The End of Capitalism"
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
David Harvey, Professor of Geography and Anthropology Graduate Center, City University of New York. Three years after the near collapse of global financial markets, America is still struggling with unemployment, debt, and foreclosure, European governments are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy—and the world's billionaires are getting richer faster than ever before. The current situation is not sustainable. But what changes need to be made to overcome this mounting crisis of our world economic system? How radical an adaptation will be required? David Harvey, the brilliant theorist and scathing critic of postmodern society, looks at what the future holds for global capitalism. http://davidharvey.org/

by WHAT right do you take from the productive and give to the non-productive? that is THEFT, and we will resist it to the death. The non productive need to wake up and stop having kids that they cant afford to raise properly you'll have to either decrease the birthrate, or Nature WILL increase the death rate.

This is an extraordinary, tour de force presentation. David Harvey is one of the individuals I look to for ideological guidance and common sense solutions.

We have lived in the fascist form of socialism since the turn of
the 20th century., They have to destroy our 2nd amendment and purge 25%
of population before they can install full blown communism. -
Sorry you white ass commies are on death row.
-
Capitalism is redundant look at the debt were in and only the Mega-Rich profit from the misery of people who are getting poorer and poorer each and every day also with the big currencies not worth the paper there written on .

Hello all the idiot ignorant youtube commentors. How are you today? Will you talk bullshit about Soivets,Cuba and socialists today? LOL
-
Does it matter that we have 19 trillion in Debt and low growth population?

To have a "free market" there must be (1) "perfect competition" (no buyer or seller can unilaterally influence the market); (2) "perfect knowledge" (all buyers and sellers have and provide the same information); and (3) "perfect mobility" (all buyers and sellers can move
to where they have the greatest competitive advantage). Since this does not exist in the US or any other country, no country truly has a capitalist society or ever will. Instead we have Corporations that want to buy and sell your life like a cheap piece of crap from Walmart.
Although people claim that there is no alternative to capitalism today, that's total bullshit
since, as we've already pointed out, Capitalism is a fairytale, and, unlike the theory, in reality most capitalist countries are full of shitty service-sector jobs and low wages. But that's okay... because most people would just squander their money on hookers and blow anyway... -
corporate oligarchy aka inverse facism/inverted totalitarianism aka neoliberalism aka crypto-authoritarianism aka hypercapitalism aka corporate dictatorship aka managed 'democracy'. related topics include : 1. postmodernism (established cultural response to/rationalization of hypercapitalist dominance), 2. identity politics, ie feminism, "_____" rights, 'social justic', etc (political equivalent of corporate identification/xploitation of different demographics/target markets), 3. post-marxism/cultural marxism (use of bullshit hate & resentment narratives to militarize identity politics & prempt tha underclass staging a massive unified economic class-based uprising against tha corporate-government overclass with, instead, an endless chain of manufactured, procorporate-government race/sex/gender-based fracturing, division, n infighting) 4. ongoing resource wars in tha east & tha continued growth/maintenance of tha military-police industrial complex aka permanent war economy lol & none of this is even getting into more 'conspiracy theory' related topics like tha use of false flag terrorism to manipulate public perceptions & enforce social control or orwellianass corporate-government surveillance of tha public xD

On the zero growth: I would have education and parents not only hopefully have more time and less work. Shorter work days more shifts. Also education focus on who you are? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What types of careers would be good for you? Also have an unemployed philanthropic Department a system where if you are unemployed you go to a job center obviously look at job listing and what not. Then the rest of the day is spent doing things you can for others who are in need. Elderly, perhaps schools, injured, whatever someone comes in and says they cannot or desperately need.

Heck I can think of at least 10 different ideas for equity in economy and humanity that has only been but briefly attempted before some form of power or economic fascism decided it was a threat or needed something it didnt so I will go with humanity and frankly I have no use for money, debt, greed, stuff, take all that we see in this Imperialistic plateau we have been stuck at for IDK maybe 4 or 5 thousand years and give it up at that point the fear is apparent. Junter gatherer is a life few would survive at. I say maybe that is just the way it is supposed to be? lf Capitalism is the only way you can have it all. It sucks and until I see real improvement on the human cost side I will continue with my Anarchist way of life because if its acceptable to be an economic fascist I can certainly keep to myself and ignore you.

All nonsense. This produces and creates nothing but yet is living comfortable off the fruits of capitalist.

Interesting...
but there is a major flaw... Harvey claims that governments are ruled
by 'Bond markets' (Gov 'debt' markets) ie big finance, but this is not
actually true in the US or the UK, since they issue their own
currencies. The neoliberal scam is to pretend otherwise, but a proper
understanding of the monetary system - which Harvey clearly doesn't have
- reveals the deception. It IS true in the Eurozone shared currency
countries, because those countries do NOT issue their own currencies.
Harvey misses this and clearly in this talk believes there is no
difference between Euro countries and the US. This is a BAD failure, and
results in flawed conclusions on his part.. and poor scholarship, since
he only has to study MMT economists' work to realise his error.....
Also, he seems to conflate economic growth with parallel growth in use
of unsustainable use of resources. This is wrong... it's perfectly
possible to create a society using vastly more renewable and recycled
resources which would, by necessity, also have to encompass similarly
massive economic growth from our present situation. Harvey is
interesting in many aspects, but the above are very serious flaws. -
There isn't a dearth of ideas of what to do - there's a political refusal to even discuss them, let alone adopt them!

Did anyone understand the answer WELL when he was asked, "If one person can or is able to feed 100 or 1000 others then we have a situation where we have permanent unemployment, etc..." What would the other 100-1000 do?? and why is traditional employment so important in his vision of zero growth?? ---- what did he really say about that?? --because with mechanization of almost everything with computer power, and the ability to automate almost all services, then what he says about Capitalism needing a population surplus is sort of confusing and weird, sounded to me a bit disjointed. Specially as he points out the FACT of zero population growth in many countries and the staggering decrease of birthrates in so many others. From the other video called The coming Demographic Winter, the issues compound even more.... any clarifications or comments??

Well, will capitalists espouse capitalism for the system - government -that manages capitalism?
For instance - government is a service provider non profit organization which delivers commonly agreed upon civil rights, security, defense and arbitration
So should government services - police, jurisdiction, army - be up for private proprietorship for profit?
I think capitalists "intuitively" can see what that would lead to - everyone will be held for ransom.
Likewise, why don't they realize that by owning means of production - they have kept everyone for ransom? -
Why do peeps think there is no alternative to capitalism? Because they have been brainwashed into a state of infantile, fear and denial, and are terrified of uncertainty and so just keep shooting the messenger and hoping things will sort themselves out.
