American/European sanctions are so stupid, from different points of view: 1) Putin should maybe thank the Americans, as he has no problem to rally the vast majority of the Russian population behind his government under those sanctions. 2) The external pressure for reform and more efficiency in the Russian economy and administration will make Russia stronger in a much shorter term. 3) It helps Russia to focus even more strongly on its strengths and develop them further. 4) Russia is establishing strong ties with other international powers, and Western companies/economies might miss opportunities for the future. 5) The global economy needs growth everywhere, and now the US and Europe are shooting in their own foot by imposing sactions and missing maybe 0.5%-1% of global growth... 6) European industries (ask Germany and France) are also hurt by the sanctions, as they can no longer export (incl. tourism) to Russia. - Let's hope that the U.S. are going to sober up soon.

The problem is Putin.

Yes, western sanction gives Russians good lesson and opportunities. They have no more dream about western "democracy" system.

Ian, you are wrong. Sanction against Russia is not from international community, rather from only western on-side willing. We Chinese have good business with Russians. You westerners just use any chance to humiliate Russia.

ПО РУССКИ ГОВОРИТЕ! Эй... переводчик, заблудился что-ли?
Я что должна их язык учить, чтобы понять что они там болтают...? -
Leave it to a Russian official to say, in effect, "Oh, it doesn't matter that the price of practically our sole export is down to $30 per barrel; it doesn't matter that the ruble is worth peanuts."

Bremmer makes a good point that Russia and the West have had different narratives over the past 25 years (58:00). But the reason is simple. The so called West is a US-led political and economic cartel that behaves like it's "either our way or highway". Besides, Washington is particularly against any serious Russia's integration with the EU, simply because this will weaken America's grip over Europe that gives it extra leverage in spreading its hegemony globally.

Former ambassador does not understand or he doesn`t want to understand that Russia is not interested in the dialoge with the West, becouse there is no such thing as dialoge or diplomacy between Russia and the West for many years now. And there will be no dialoge between Russia and the West for many decades or maybe centuries to come. Former ambassador forgets that we live in completely different world today in 21. century, where center of world gravity is located in Asia (place where mayority of world population and economic growght is located today). The gravity pushes Russia closer and closer toward Asia with every year. So I think that there will be less and less dialoge in future, and moore and moore conflicts and problems with each year in relations between Russia and the West.

The thing that former ambassador Ischinger is not capable to process and understand is that Russian military engagement into Ukraine is not a failure, but tactical victory for Kremlin. The fact that Ukraine has lost territory of Crimea and lost many important military battles in Donbass demonstrates that people of Ukraine fears Russia and military streight that Russia posseses. So it is completely natural that 70 % of Ukrainians hate Russia, becouse Kremlin dominates and controls Ukraine with force. Ukrainian people knows that if they attack Donbass that they will be defeated and maybe even carpet bombed or nuked if necessary. And this is a tactical and geopolitical victory for Moscow !
