The talk I gave at TEDxZurich on October 25, 2012. It was featured on TED.com on February 13, 2013:) http://www.ted.com/talks/james_b_glattfelder_who_controls_the_world.html ***Corrections: - At 03:54 I blacked out (which was kindly cut by the editor:) and I forgot to say this: "You can then understand the complex system by simulating it in a computer. As an example, you need three simple rules to simulate swarming behavior: - Move in the same direction as your neighbor - Stay close to your neighbor, but avoid collisions If you think this is no big deal, think again. No one saw this coming. And to this day no one really knows why this is the way things are. It's as if reality is giving us a big help in understanding how stuff works. Like the 'miracle' I mentioned before, that equations mirror the workings of the universe." - At 09:02 I meant to say "center" not "core". *** Links: -TED blog: http://blog.ted.com/2013/02/13/who-controls-the-world-resources-for-understanding-this-visualization-of-the-global-economy/ -TEDxZurich: http://www.tedxzurich.com/2012/08/james-b-glattfelder/ -Original video: http://youtu.be/vSSKpL87_Rs called "Who Controls the World: James B.
