It’s not the same as socialism socialism, because it’s democratic. Right? Or something, right? People are buying that; people buy that now, right? Apparently. As though adding the word “democratic” in front of a word changes what it means. Just because we toss something to a vote doesn’t change what that something is, nor does it alter whether that something is inherently good or bad. A couple of examples, because I know you’ll ask: Hamas was democratically elected as the government in Gaza – despite the fact that the destruction of not only Israel, but the eradication of all Jews, is in their official charter. Robert Mugabe, or Bobby Mugabe if you prefer, was democratically elected by a loving majority in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe! How’s that working out? Venezuela? Well, Hugo Chavez, noted personal favorite friend of Sean Penn, to whom he constantly pointed as being unfairly characterized as a dictator when, in fact, he was democratically elected as a socialist. Well, how’d that workout for Venezuela? Well, it’s now on the brink of collapse despite it being one of the most resource rich nations in the entire world. Basic things like eggs, milk, flour, and toilet paper are either too expensive for the average Venezuelan or simply out of stock… out of stock, mind you... democratically. I know, some of you will say, “Well that’s not fair, because really we knew all along it technically was a dictatorship.” Ok – that’s fair; let’s move on to example number two. Denmark? Ok, here’s the time where you point to an entirely homogenous population about one sixtieth the size of America’s, and you point to that as the blueprint? Ok – let’s go there. This is a place where the middle class can’t even afford a car because of the 180% new-car tax. And the Prime Minister was so fed up with Americans pointing to it as a beacon for socialist success that he felt compelled to clarify, “I would like to make one thing clear: Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy; Denmark is a market economy.” Sweden? I love Sweden! Ok, great bikini team, and thanks to that country my armoire now doubles as a bookcase. Speaking of which, the founder of IKEA – let’s be honest, the only real cool export from Sweden aside from a few good hockey players – left Sweden because of the stifling high tax rate. So, Sweden – good place, not bad people – but a successful model for a viable economy in today’s global market? Incorrect. Socialism is the ownership and regulation of the means of production and distribution by the community. The USSR Vietnam Venezuela and all other countries you listed weren't socialist at all or communist. This Video is the definition of Propaganda because it purposefully spread a lies for their benefit.

I wonder if there will ever be an alternative to capitalism/market economies or socialism/communism

While I appreciate the sensationalism of your video, it has little substantive value. The term "socialism" refers to an economic model, whereas democracy refers to a governing model. The two are complementary and mutually exclusive. Hamas may have been "elected democratically", they do not rule by democracy. There is no open, free debate. No public referendums are ever held on key policy issues. Government "officials" are largely appointed, not specifically elected, and so on. Enter democratic socialism -- parties and officials are elected. Public office is subject to term limits, along with checks and balances. Policy is set in accordance with majority public opinion. Matters of policy give precedence to the good of the masses over the greed of the few. In short, I love your hipster presentation, but facts are simply not your strong suit.

Bernie Sanders isn't a socialist (at least his policies aren't). You'd know this if you even looked at them :/
-
No, Scandinavia isn't socialist. Not even democratic socialist. We simply a have good welfare state. Your ability to go to college isn't determined by your parents' income. Your ability to be healthy isn't determined whether or not you chose to be a banker or a carpenter.
In reality, Scandinavia is living the American dream. We have som the highest social class mobility, while the US has lower social class mobility than any western European nation. That is a fact. That cannot be disputed. -
Wow, this is some bought and paid for crap.
-
The Nazis proudly called themselves Democratic Socialists. I know calling yourself a thing doesn't make you a thing but it's interesting nevertheless
-
nobody is saying because it has the word democratic in it that its good, Democratic Socialism is a mix of some elements of socialism and capitalism and democracy and freedom, it seems to me you have no idea what it even is, nobody wants to get rid of capitalism, we just want to be able to afford healthcare, Canada is a democratic socialist nation and theyre doing great, the people being able to live and survive is much more important than a couple rich people staying
-
Democratic Socialism is not socialism because the government doesn't own property and force which professions exist. You need to take some political science classes before posting a video like this. The money is not yours, but the it's the people's trust; as it say's on the back of the money. We have real jobs and the capitalist want to pay us sweet shop wages. As a business owner, I do not want to waste my money on insurance companies that do me no good, and I want to invest that money in my company. Your opinion is privileged and selfish.
-
No it isn't. Far more accepting of capitalism
-
what does steve meant by get a job at the last part?
like euphemistacally what did it mean "get a job" -
What loses me every time is how they pepper in phrases like, lazy, greedy, hippy, and get a job, when talking about people who work 60+ hours struggling to put decent food on their table. It's simply a ploy to get people who make a decent living on their side by saying, those poor people are just lazy, that's why they don't make any money. It's an improper generalization that totally nullifies the following points being made. I agree, Socialism isn't the answer, but neither is pure Capitalism. Thus, you have people who want a blending of these concepts, among others. This speech, however, is just a completely biased chocolate mess.
-
so then this kid doesnt like medicare social security, the police or the military?
smh -
>get a real job
>does this for a living -
so what was the point of this video? really made no sense?
-

Denmark isn't a democratic socialist country its a socialist kingdom with a small amount of democraticness
-
nazism = LCD tv. just because it has a different word doesn't mean it's different.
-prageru logic. -
