Speakers -Professor Margaret Gardiner, Vice Chancellor, RMIT -Mr Bill Scales AO, Chancellor, Swinburne University Profound changes are occurring in our economy and workforce. Traditional approaches to education and training are being challenged to produce the skilled workforce that Australia requires in the "Asian Century". This seminar will explore what the changing trends in the nature and extent of investment in education and training in Australia and what the future of vocational education should look like. It will also look at how Australia's education and training system compares internationally and whether we have an education system that is "fit-for-purpose" for the challenges ahead. It will examine whether we need a new philosophy for our education system based on a "life-long learning" model.
