And these 1,300 pound (average weight for both a beef and dairy cow) animals eat a lot. Much like humans, when they eat, gas builds up inside of their guts and has to be expelled. (See Why Beans Make You Fart) Cows fart and burp… a lot. The result is a large amount of methane being introduced into the atmosphere. Eat more chikken!

I'm wondering how effective positive reinforcement is compared to negative association in regards to seeing eye dogs? I've heard many conflicting statistics of the failure rate of successful training that I'd find very interesting discussed
-
Great topics. Seriously
-
Do the cow farts exceed the Trump Tweets? I doubt it. Trump is the preeminent gasbag of this earth.
-
There was at least 100,000,000 bison on the great plains in the U.S. from Canada to Mexico. They too were cattle. I am certain that the bison also burped and farted just like cattle.

You know, this problem is easily solved! Harvest the methane, use it as fuel, and
1. that gas does not go into the atmosphere
2. You can burn the methane, which is way cleaner than burning fossil fuels, both because they produce less CO2 than other fuels, and also because they don't produce as much pure poison like CO.
3. The Ranchers can make extra money selling the methane.
4. No one has to stop eating meat, so the only people who don't win are the animal rights activists.
You don't need to keep the cows inside, either, to collect it. You can hook up collection tanks on their backs and collect the belches directly, and that's already been done. This is a kill 3 birds solution, rather than the zero sum game that most environmentalists try to achieve. -
I wonder if any of these researchers have looked at the amount of methane expelled by other ruminants like North American Bison that used to number in the many millions, along with the many other animals we've reduced to extinct or near extinct through replacing them int he environment with the animals we breed for food etc. And don't forget the millions of horses that used to be around, but are greatly reduced now.
-
People do go on about all the cows in the US without considering that they simply replaced the Bison that roamed the plains(and farted) for tens of thousands of years.
-
Just switch to pork already, people. It tastes WAY better, and the production is much more environment-friendly in terms of water usage, methane emission and needed land area.
And everyone who doesn't want to eat it because of religious superstitions can still eat chicken, or become a vegan, or just go fuck themselves altogether. -
Eat more cows, gottcha.
-
Its more the side effect of cows, not their methane.
-
I would have never thought there were over a BILLION cows that blew my mind.
-
You also have to consider that methane is much lighter than nitrogen which makes up most of our atmosphere, so it quickly migrates to the upper atmosphere and gets stripped away by solar winds.
Carbon dioxide, on the other hand, is heavier than nitrogen and tends to stay in the lower atmosphere like a blanket building up over time.
So while methane is more potent than carbon dioxide, it is a transitory gas and only needs to be managed so the amount vented into space is not exceeded by the amount produced by all sources.
Carbon dioxide stays around much much longer and is only really managed by production of things that use it like new plants and animals and some construction methods. It's a much bigger and much longer term problem than methane. -
How about human farts? Do they contribute to global warming?
-
there were millions upon millions of wilder beasts, buffaloes, bison, water buffalo, aurochs, wild cattle before domestication of cattle.
and they produced equal amount of methane.
so this theory is just bs. -
Global warming is politically motivated myth. ALL of the data models intentionally over estimated the effects of increases in temperature from increases in CO2 and other greenhouse gasses. These models that all predicted the ice caps would be completely melted by now relied on a multiplier effect that predicted 400 percent more rises in temperature. They just got it wrong. They are not even sure that a vast increase in c02 would have any appreciable impact on average temperatures. The earth it seems is self-balancing. This is about increasing the size and scope of government - nothing more.

LMAO ! I would call taxing cow farts a real desperate attempt to steal from the people ! What's next taxing Mexican bean farts ? How about taxing politicians for being full of shit ! But of course they would just give themselves a raise to cover 10 times the amount of the tax ! Seems we should just get rid of these losers and save everybody tons of money ! LMAO ! Not to mention making the cows happy. And who really give a shit about loser politicians ? LMAO

Short answer no, the long answer indirectly. Cows don't eat fossil carbons so the cows them self's don't add anything. And before you vegans freak out your soy feed ain't carbon neutral by a long shot either. This is all like the best magic trick in the world " look at my left hand holding a tissue not my right holding the gun", once you fix the fossil fuel problem then you can go after the rest. Priorities people!
