Are women discriminated against in the workplace? Looking at the data, women on average earn an annual wage that is approximately 75% that of men, which many people believe is the result of discrimination. Learn more: http://bit.ly/1HVAtKP However, when Prof. Steve Horwitz analyzes the data more closely, he finds that women make certain choices, such as career selection and raising children, which tend to result in lower wages than men. These choices could be the result of personal preferences or sexist cultural expectations for women's work, though the relative influence of these two factors remains unclear. Also usually women are not comfortable negotiating a better pay, or apply for a position that is above their experience (which men don't mind doing).
-
This video is great but doesn't go far enough. There's also...
1) Differences in whether they want non-salary benefits (medical, retirement, vacation time, etc) or all compensation to go directly into paychecks
2) Total hours worked per week on average (and thus men tend to do more overtime work)
3) How willing men vs women are to commute longer distances for a job or relocate to a new city altogether.
...and so on.
It would be interesting if someone had a fuller list and decided to track as many studies or articles on the topic for omissions. -
If someone ever says that women makes less than men then just say then why won't employers only hire women if it's a cheaper labor force?
-
Why don't you just state the simple fact that on average women earn less then men? They don't get paid less or have lower wages for the same jobs. It is simply that on average women EARN less then men. Them maybe explain the difference between wages and earnings.
-
And, while we all are talking about the salary gap between men and women, we remark the salary gap "in the same area", for the same level of diploma. So the reason that you gave in this video isn't really convincing.
-
Why the balance between family and work should be an issue only for women? Why are the women sometimes less ambitious than men choosing the major at the university?

First big mistake for this video was not to have a minority female as the main speaker. Only then can you even begin to have a hardcore leftist's ear.

very profound explanation., thank you!

This video would have been a lot more useful if they looked at the wage difference in men vs women in the same profession and same level of experience, in other words, if the confounding variables were controlled.
