Welcome folks to an hour long question and answer interview with the founder of Novaquark, the independent company developing Dual Universe, JC Baillie. JC is clearly passionate about this game his company is developing, and has put aside some time to spend over an hour with me answering the various community questions that I received from reddit, Youtube comments, and through e-mails. There were a ton of awesome questions involving a ton of different aspects of Dual Universe including the lore, the technology, the limitations, the goals, the science, and many, many other topics. Some 30 questions were answered (some of JC's answers were so detailed they ended up answering several questions at once). Played in first person view, Dual Universe takes place in a vast realistic universe made of millions of planets, and focuses on emergent collective gameplay based around exploration, mining, crafting, trade, politics and warfare. The concept of Dual Universe is best described as a “Boundless MMO”: based on an innovative server technology called CSSC (Continuous Single-Shard Cluster), the game enables everybody to play in the same world, at the same time, without any slicing of the game universe into instances or zones. In addition, for the first time in a single-shard MMO, the world is entirely modifiable and an unlimited number of players will be free to build together, cooperate or compete. Immersive first person view in a futuristic sci-fi universe. Realistic in-game economy (based on market orders and financial tools). Scriptable constructions (ships, buildings, etc) using LUA: players can build their own piloting, AI or factory automation. TECHNOLOGICAL FEATURES Continuous Single-Shard Cluster: the technology behind the “Boundless” MMO approach. Hoping someone answers this...how is ship destruction going to work in this game? Will ships take damage to individual components? Can we cut capital ships in half? Will it be like Space Engineers where blocks are actually DEFORMABLE and don't just disappear when destroyed? Space Engineers is the only game that does this, so I'm hoping Dual Universe does as well.

i assume if you wonted to you could just fly a ship to another system and sit at your computer for a week

i can imagine it now since no body wont's to spend weeks waiting for a prob to go somewhere every body will be at war in the first system. thats exactly what i would hope happens

please ask the dev of this incredible but unrealistic sounding game to take a look at the tech of Eve Online server arhitecture. They WILL need to have something similar, or it will be a laggy, low fps mess. https://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/tranquility-tech-3/
I just don't get it how they want to host potentially hundreds and even thousands of players in the same place. Imagine the big cities and stations. I still hope this game is gonna make it.... but I would have asked about performance and tech at the very beginning. The answer, they tested it with some virtual clients and the real test will be when people will play it. Really? Really? Oh man... -
With no MANS SKY being such a disappointment. This game has huge potential.

"everything is destructible" sounds great for the griefers, they will have a nice time destroying the landscape.
