Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
Aired 11/8/16. This week's Economic Update covers Harvard University fundraising 7 billion dollars while denying rights of workers, three new mega mergers, Germany's ban on all of GMO adjusted plants, the amount of money raised for all of the U.S. Presidential candidates, the false economic "recovery," the leaders of the Catholic University of America defending their rights to accept millions of dollars from the Koch Brothers, the non existent media coverage of one of the biggest strikes in U.S. history because it's occurring in Prisons, and lastly guest Dr. Harriet Fraad, mental health counselor and psychotherapist discuss the mental health effects of Capitalist Enterprises vs. Worker Co-Ops. I never thought of it this way, the way Dr Fraad put it, that these disconnected people "lash out in their rage" and just kill others with whom they have no connection with, thus they are angry at the whole world. Now that I think about it, third world countries have lots of shootings and killings but almost all of these have a reason such as plain old crime, revenge, hatred, religious differences, honor, vendetta, etc. Over there, nobody walks into a store and kills people he /she does not know because their girlfriend left them or they got fired. They may kill the girlfriend or their employer but they have a reason for doing that (in their mind that is). Killing strangers (active shooters) out of rage appears to a western phenomenon.

Very true. Folks who are socially well connected are the healthiest mentally.

Workplace injustice is one can of worms, corporate pharmaceutical corruption another. In any discussion of the opioid crisis, Purdue Pharmaceuticals deserves a mention. http://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-ln-oxycontin-20160526-snap-story.html

OK, how do you add the disabled to this conversation?

Great episode as always and very insightful but I did find that FEMA commercial halfway through to be quite troubling. What are we supposed to be getting prepared for? If anything it only raises more questions

As purchasing power continues to be chiseled away from the majority either through stagnant wages and continued inflation or flat out unemployment (no job) and under employment (part-time bullshit job) ...then who the fuck will buy the shit the genius capitalists produce either via automation or off-shored manufacturing ?? :D

As is usual, an excellent lecture, full of information that MSM will never put in front of us.

I rebel at the term "team" because all I see of the teams of the world for little children through multi billionaire professional sports "teams" of freak individuals who are taller, more muscular, etc are meaningless to me. I don't worship "jocks". I don't give any money intentionally to the "jock" culture. I would never purchase a sweatshirt or hat of a "sports" team. We need a new term and your term of cooperative life is a start. Co-ops have been part of our culture, including the "hippies" of the 40's and 50's.

All the macro economics robberies that are becoming more and more visible are having a direct impact on my micro wallet. Perhaps I should get rid of my wallet and get out my hat so I can beg, "brother can you give me a dime".

My worry is that we will come to a day when we cannot get any funds from the Banks because they don't have it. They spent it speculating and have lost. When they don't have the money, we will be in trouble. How are people to cope and live, especially when they get old and weak and sick.
