Everything you need to know about the Russian Revolution in a 13 min video. Produced in partnership with Bridgeman Images http://www.bridgemanimages.com/en-GB/ We explain all the major events of Russia's TWO revolutions of 1917– the February Revolution that ended Tsarist rule in Russia, and the October Revolution, that brought the Bolsheviks to power. We explain the causes of Tsar Nicholas II's growing unpopularity - the role of the mysterious Siberian mystic Rasputin, Russia's disastrous involvement in World War One, and the events on the streets of Petrograd that led to the Tsar's abdication. That summer Russia lurched from crisis to crisis, with a Provisional Government that faced riots (the July Days), military revolt (the Kornilov Affair), economic chaos, and constantly dwindling support. Socialist Prime Minister Alexander Kerensky, once hailed as Russia's great hope, was unable to restore order, or, in October, prevent the Bolsheviks from launching a coup, organised by Leon Trotsky and led by Vladimir Lenin, that overthrow the Provisional Government and brought the Bolsheviks to power. A brutal civil war followed, leading to the death of more than 10 million Russians – amongst them Tsar Nicholas II and his family, executed by Bolsheviks at Yekaterinburg in July 1918. From the wreckage emerged the Soviet Union, formed in 1922, and destined to be one of the 20th century's two superpowers. Amazing video, thank you! :D

I hope you continue this series through the USSR and into the modern day. It's interesting how the people of the country demanded democracy, but ended up with only a short period of time before authoritarian communism took control and to this day, corruption gives the impression that the country is still ruled under a dictatorship.

The euphoria of the February revolution was crushed by the incopmitency of the provisional government. At the moment when foreign powers were moving in to grasp the dropped regains of power was when the bolsheviks stepped in and seized them instead. Britain had claimed the north and the US had claimed the trans-Siberian railway. The provisional government had lost its control over Russias regions and people far before the bolsheviks came centre stage.

marx is wrong .because his explanation of labor is wrong. he counts only muscle force as labor, but simply would pay equal wage to Einstein and an ordinary worker ?

Remember that it was the red army that closed down 500 nazy military brothels, in occupied europe!

The February revolution could have led to the most democratic system of government the world had ever seen, it was praised by Marxists at the time for being a real step towards socialism. These were Marxists who later considered the Bolsheviks an authoritarian deviation from the socialist movement. If soviets which were directly controlled by the public were the source of power and not the Bolsheviks it could have ended up being a genuine socialist society and maybe eventually reach a decentralized stateless form of Communism. They could have been perfected and the Soviet Union would have avoided dictatorship and totalitarianism by eliminating unregulated centralized power. I have no doubt that if Germany succeeded in doing the same thing at the time then world history would be radically different right now.

What's the sound track starting at about 4:35?

What do you mean the February Uprising was peaceful?!? If it wasn't for the massive riots that day it never would've happened. That's the whole reason the Duma was able to consolidate Power, by creating a provisional government to quell the rioting; not to mention all the street fighting that also took place. It was the October Revolution that was mostly peaceful

Soviet Russia wasn't actually socialist in nature though, nor was it communist. Not by Marxist standards anyway. I'm excited to see what you make of the USSR next, whenever you decide to venture into that territory. How are you going to manage the political theory back load of this period? It involves Socialism, Stalinism, Fascism, Capitalism, maybe even Marxism and Maoism. Don't even get me started on Marxist Communism versus Soviet Communism.
But then again, I don't know which forms are truly relevant and which are not. But as far as I can tell, there's just so much present to cover, you know? -

it was a completely jewish revolution. the wntire leadership of the bolshevik revolution were jewish such as trotsky, kakonovich, lenin ect. and even the communist manifest was written by karl marx a jew. the entire revolution was funded by international jewish banks with gold as nearly a billion dollers worth of gold came straight from america before the revolution.
