This exclusive report tracks the dealers, buyers and government officials who protect them. In January 2005, a crate containing six baby chimpanzees and four monkeys was rescued from a flight from Cairo. The animals had been denied food and water for days and one soon died. Scouring flight records, animal investigators linked the shipment to a notorious wildlife smuggler. It's believed this smuggler traffics an average of 40 chimpanzees a year, bribing airport officials. Despite a wealth of evidence against her, she has never been prosecuted. This crime is just as evil as people smuggling. Animals illegally captured in Africa often end up in private collections, which cannot provide for their welfare as well as one, their wild home or two, if needed, a zoo. Most zoos nowadays are trying to make a dent in the drastically falling wild numbers of endangered animals by running breed to release programs and have extremely strict animal welfare laws to adhere to. Illegal private collectors often don't even bother getting a permit as the punishment is either nothing or a small fine. Egypt must act NOW to prevent all wildlife smuggling across it's boarders and implement severe penalties and severe penalties for illegally keeping an endangered animal. We are on the brink of losing SO many species. The Chimpanzee, gorilla, all species of tiger, rhinos, I could go on. I support human rights and animal welfare (big difference between animal 'rights' and animal welfare), which allows us humans to label any species as endangered and also gives us no choice but to PROTECT them in the wild and try to increase wild populations with zoo breed to release programs. We are not even doing our basic duties, such as preventing smuggling and poaching. Another problem that MUST stop is the illegal trade in animal parts for bogus quack 'medicine' promising to 'cure all', when in reality not ONE of these potions has been scientifically proven to do anything a sugar pill can't. #banthetradeofendangeredspecies #harsherpunishments #stopquackmedicines
