The China Choice: why America should share power by Lowy Visiting Fellow Professor Hugh White was launched by former prime minister Paul Keating, who described the book as "exceptionally thoughtful". Among the points raised by Professor White's book, Mr Keating talked about how future stability in Asia cannot be cast by a non-Asian power and that the US must decide where its vital interests lie in relation to China. Professor White said he wrote the book to set out the arguments as plainly as possible; to write "a stark book" and acknowledged that such plain talking will inevitably attract criticism.

Keating, a man who is hedging his bets because he's scared shitless of the Chinese in his back yard, so he pretends his country isn't reliant on American power to maintain western civilization, just in case appeasement works.
