Between November 30th and December 4th, 2011, more than 260 accredited galleries showed the work of 2,000 reputable artists at the Miami Beach Convention Center and outdoor sections in Miami Beach such as Art Video magnificently projected on the New World Center's entire building facade, breathtakingly designed by Frank Gehry and Art Public Opening Night, at Collins Park and Oceanfront Miami Beach, where Sanford Biggers on keyboard and laptop and Moon Medicine created images of punk, funk, film noir, sci-fi and traditional Samoan and Buddhist dance. Nearly 50,000 gallerists, art lovers, collectors, the press, artists, as well as staff as the fair produces lots of local jobs, fabulous high society parties, special events and meaningful performance art pieces propelled what might otherwise be somewhat of an art sales show into a celebration marking the 10th Edition of Miami Basel. All of the celebrity art dealers like Gagosian, Mary Boone and Tony Shafrazi were physically present tempting first time art collectors with owning their own slice of a cultural and sociological pastime rooted in this new economic value system that prevails today in the U.S.A. and in some countries in Europe that are interested in contemporary art. Marianne Goodman Gallery at Booth K13 showed works by Gabriel Orozco who is one of several major new artists who have had entire retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Thomas Schutte Gallery in Booth C18 had a precious red steel Alexander Calder. Jennifer Rubell's 11th Annual Food-Art Breakfast, "Incubation," was a go see at the Rubell Family Collection Show, "American Exuberance," and Carter Cleveland, Wendy Murdoch and Dasha Zhukova hosted a party for Art.sy, the newest online way to buy art, presented by Louis Vuitton.
