G20 Leaders Agree to Revitalize Trade, Investment to Enliven Global Economy: Xi

The G20 members will strive to revitalize trade and investment to unleash global cooperation potentials and reverse the declining trend of trade growth, Chinese President Xi Jinping has told a news conference in Hangzhou on Monday. "We are determined to revitalize the two engines of trade and investment and build an open world economy. We have reached consensus on reinforcing the G20 trade and investment mechanism and formulated the G20 Strategy for Global Trade Growth to boost an inclusive and coordinated growth of the global value chain. We support multilateral trading system and oppose protectionism," Xi tells reporters after this year's G20 Summit has concluded earlier in the day. The Chinese president says the G20 leaders have also agreed to push forward an inclusive and connected development, in order that the whole world can benefit from the cooperation of the G20. "For the first time ever, the summit has put the issue of development front and center at the global macro policy framework, has constituted an action plan to facilitate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and has collectively supported the industrialization of African countries and of the least developed countries. That is a pioneering step made in the history of the G20," Xi stresses. President Xi says the G20 will strive to fulfill its role as a premier forum for international economic cooperation and continue to transform itself from a crisis-response mechanism to a long-term governance platform focusing on medium and long-term policies and supply-side reforms.
