"The New Era of Competence: Connecting Learning and Employment" Employment instability has persistently plagued many countries, including Korea, since the 1998 Asian economic crisis. To worsen the situation, employment opportunities have declined markedly for youth and the older generations following the 2008 global financial crisis. As a consequence, there is a growing interest in 'learning-led work', whereby work is provided with human resources development taking place simultaneously, stressing that education and work are the best form of welfare. Korea is seeing a recruitment culture of linking learning and work taking root and a more open labor market with removal of barriers of educational background, all of which are pointing toward the direction to which the society should move. This session will hold discussions on measures of linking learning and work for high school graduates in a time where the importance of educational background is on decline.
