British Columbia businesses are attracting more investment and exporting more products as a result of an innovative approach to overseas business development implemented by the Ministry of International Trade. B.C. has recognized that international trade and investment opportunities, particularly in the Asia Pacific, are key drivers of job growth and economic prosperity. While British Columbia has been working to capitalize on these opportunities, the province faces increasingly strong competition from other jurisdictions, which are very aggressive and well resourced. B.C. has had to become more innovative and strategically rethink its approach in order to maintain and grow opportunities for B.C. businesses. This new business model, incorporating an expansion of British Columbia’s overseas office presence and new best practice methods of fostering trade and investment, produces cost effective outcomes that delivered increased trade, over $870 million in investment, and over 3,000 jobs in the 2013/14 fiscal year alone for British Columbians.
