I live in Vietnam, I've worked in a sweatshop for years, they don't call them sweatshops here, if a westerner's sweatshop closes down and 1000 people lose their jobs, people start locking the motorbikes in their bedrooms in fear of having them stolen by unemployed people with no income or savings to get by. Workers move from their hometowns to have the opportunity to work at a westerner's sweatshop. They pray for overtime. This is why every time I read an article blaming western companies for labor exploitation I can't help it but laugh.
3. For the life of me, I will never understand how the word "globalism" has some how become synonymous with "existential threat to my existence" I mean seriously XD of all the boogeyman words people chose to fix on, I never expected such a banal word like globalism would be one

7. Lol at 4:40 he mentioned the multiplier affect and how the lose of jobs creates jobs, but he didn't go into detail of how that does so. I didn't know that the mainstream media is also on the internet too.
8. Poverty could have ended a long long time ago... There is clearly enough production in society to end poverty. Sitting Bull saw this when he was a part of the Wild West amusement. How the society was able to create grandeur yet still have starving children. Capitalism removes our humanity. It is the culture of gaining wealth forgetting all but self. Capitalism did not lift people out of extreme poverty for any other reason then they were easier/cheaper labor resource to exploit. Further Automation was supposed to make life easier yet it has just increased competition in the labor pool the result is people working longer hours for less pay.
9. This video reinforces the myths about microcredit. It is not as rosy as presented and I'm really disappointed that it was not covered. Women are not empowered by microcredit alone and the evidence shows that microcredit was and is spend primarily on consumer basic goods, not on setting up new businesses. Poor people are creative because they are desperate to earn for living but without right skills and education they cannot escape the vicious circle of poverty by getting microcredit.
10. what I don't get about globalization is why it happened in the first place. If people want to move jobs from rich countries to poor countries because of cheap labor, why don't wages lower in rich countries? what prevented wages from dropping in countries like the US to the same wages as in China, so that there are no reasons to move factories over to china? minimum wage?

13. I'm very skeptical that our media would report on companies hurting laborers overseas or having unscrupulous business practices. In fact it seems like they have an incentive not to do that. Most consumers are in the dark about that stuff.
14. Thank you for the information. Too many problems!! I don't think I trust the UN or the big international companies to solve the problem. Frankly I like the idea of local economics.Lower demands, get over the Gucci thing whatever the hell that is and eat natural while being nice to people. What does that have to do with profit margins? So much to say but so leery to say it.
15. This is all under the assumption that developing countries cant develop themselves and require developed nations and their corporations to step in and create. Which is a little convenient when us developed nations didn't need help to get to where we are.

17. There will be no scrutiny for exploitation....Apple using children in China because they have small fingers...what did the USA do about it, they gave Apple 3 years to clean up their act. Yeah Globalisation is great for 1% of the population, everyone else is just tinder.

19. I don't think microloans are that that great. Replace the word loan with debt. It is giving women with debt when they have little reserves and face high risks. What happens if a family member gets sick or has an accident. What about theft? While debt is not such a big issue here. It can be serious to people in poor countries. It can lead to human trafficking and prostitution. The fact that the repayment rate 92%, makes me suspicious. Usually business have a viability rate of 20% after 5 years. It shows that the lenders are really good at extracting that money back. What methods are they using to get that money back? If it is 92%, it makes me think the lending institutions are not using honest methods of getting their money. Will she be arrested if she doesn't pay it back. Will it drive her to the whore house? Will non payers be thrown into human trafficking? Better just to give her the money than put her in that kind of risk. Debt is risky. It can make you richer or it can make you spiral deeper into poverty. They can't afford to lose. Oh and yes, human being a slave is much worse than being poor. Prostitution often leads single motherhood in an area that is extremely dangerous to be a single mother.
20. West should stop dumping subsidized agar products into poor countries in the name of free trade and making these countries poorer.
