Thank you Hayden. That sounds like utopia to me. I moved to New Zealand 1 1/2 years ago. But I still cannot feel that New Zealand is opening up for immigrants. Everything is quite expensive here (Visa) and it is really hard for me to get back into my professional work life. Maybe because so many German backpackers are coming to New Zealand and you are seen as someone who can do the casual jobs. That is frustrating. I asked some of my Kiwi friends what I can do about it. The answer was: to hang out with people that can connect/recommend you and do volunteering. This is exactly what I am doing. But in the end someone who is Kiwi or at least permanent resident or more connected to the one that is hiring will get the job, isn´t it? It´s still quite hard to understand the patterns of the NZ work culture. Or maybe I don´t have a suitable qualification (Media Scientist, Cultural Manager with IT Project Management background)
Whereas in Berlin at the company I used to work with, we hired French, Italian and Mexican people because we saw their skills, values and personality and not their resident status. It is important to trust more and not be afraid to fail. To live openness and diversity rather than just having a concept of it. I want to give something back to this great country but it doesn´t let me. What is your opinion? I
