It’s the biggest economy in South America and seventh largest in the world, but it’s unfortunately in a recession. It’s in a standstill because the current policies have stunted the growth of its economy. You have new forces of change in Brazil that the Brazilian people are taking a good hard look at. New voices that say, “yes, we can protect the environment, yes we can take care of the very poor of our country, but the only way—the best way really to do that—is to have the economy growing and that means free market policies, free trade with our neighbors, and better relationships with the United States. Brazilians will go to the polls on October 5. The incumbent president, a woman named Dilma Rousseff is seeking reelection for the second four-year term. She represents the status quo essentially, which unfortunately has moved Brazil to a recession. Those statist policies, government kind of top-down management of the economy, some corruption scandals that have undermined confidence of investors. She is being challenged by traditional political party leader who offers a free-market vision, his name is Aécio Neves But there is a very interesting new candidate that might have captured a lot of peoples’ attention—Marina Silva. She is from sort of the activist, environmentalist community, but she’s also been Environmental Minister. She’s definitely, literally a rags to riches story. She is offering a new vision of growing the economy. Yes, taking care of the very poor, but understanding that free market is the best way to do that. The American people ought to care about this because if we can have Brazil growing—not only is it a different, reliable source of energy close to home, but it becomes really a pillar of a South American economy. If we can get these economies moving in the right direction--understanding that a free market is the best way to grow opportunity for their people—that becomes a terrific partnership. If these economies are more productive—if they’re more competitive, we are able to compete with the rest of the world; with Asia and with Europe. So, really having the Americas firing on all cylinders is important. Unfortunately, right now, Brazil is not performing as well as it should. You have a couple of these top tier candidates who are offering free-market messages and the Brazilian people are paying close attention. There will be an election October 5 and a runoff on October 26. It looks to be as if the incumbent president, Dilma Rousseff and Marina Silva will move to a second round. The incumbent still has an advantage there built in, naturally, but having said that, there is a very good opportunity that the Brazilian people will choose a free market course that could be very promising for their relationship with the United States.

Almost 2 years later and this video has been proven to be correct. In fact, I am glad that Dilma won the election in 2014, it exposed the failure of her policies to everyone. If the opposition had won, then Dilma and her party would have blamed the opposition for the mess we are in right now.
-
But noooooooooo. Fuck you you fucking dumb countryman.
-
@HnHenrique it's true! DILMA won again....
-
The statements of the video are exaggerated, the press (Murdoch) Brazilian belong to opposition groups and manufactures many scandals to try to overthrow the current government ....
-
I'M GOING BACK TO BRASIL AND FIX THAT COUNTRY! ...I WILL KILL ALL DUMBASSES,MOTHERFUCKERS MORONS WHO VOTED FOR DILMA !

Why don't you go ahead and ask Mr Roger Noriega about the national endowment for democracy and its roll in Venezuela in the hope to bring about "free market policies".
-

I'm brazilian.
I came accross this video by chance.
I can't understand most of people here in my country.
It is as if we should be divided between people who think the government should do nothing for the poors and people that think that the government is responsible for everything.
Why can't we stay in the middle?
Why can't we take care of the poor but also have an efficient government, fight corruption, deal with the inflation, control public expenses, and so on?
Why do we have to choose between a model or the other?
Do i think that the capitalism is a better choice than the communism? Yes!
So far i haven't seen people happy in communist countries.
As we say here over and over "if cuban regime is so good why people try to get away?"
Look at Argentina and Venezuela, that were irresponsible about their economy, and what have they got?
Why people insist on communism/socialism/populism in 2014?
Dos it mean that I think we should not help the poor? Of course not.
It our duty,. I don't want to live in a country so unequal.
But cretating a welfare state doesn't mean do thing you shouldn't just because you want to seem concerned about the poor.
I don't like either the wild capitalism, that don't care about anything else except money.
There's no room for that.
Why can't we replicate the Scandinavian model?
This is really a good model.
Capitalist economies but that are commited about the welfare.
I think there's still too much hate here.
People are still much selfish.
They are also traumatized by shadows of the past and there's fear on both sides.
Please guys, let's prove that we are better than that.

Aécio Neves will be the next president, hopefully. Brasil must take a firm stand for Capitalism, once and for all.

O please, show us how your religion of free market has promoted a beautiful equal society in the US. Come to Brazil, smart white man, and show us how and why we should regret a refusal of the government of using unemployment to get the GDP growing. That's all that matters, right? The God-DP needs to grow, especially if this means financial gains for Wall Street. Let us just not use other stats like GDP per capita. Who cares about "capita"? Off with their heads!

Thanks for the video! Dilma has destroyed our economy in the past 4 years. It's sad but I think she has a great chance to win again. Many people here are so easily manipulated, sadly.
Now our hopes are on a victory of the center-right candidate Aécio Neves. -
the person who did this video definitely should study more

The video criticizes the brazilian economic policies, says that the actual government is responsible for the recession but "forgot" to point out that the same policies made Brazil pass trough the world economic crisis pretty much untouched
I subscribe to your channel for the Factual Feminists videos, and indeed they are great. All your other videos are pretty much boring or biased. This video in fails to give the viewer the bigger picture and instead focus on a right-wing bias. Shame on you AEI, it pains me to see such shallow content being passed on labeled as "truth". -
I think this video only talks about the superficial aspects of our country, economically, politically and socially speaking. These three candidates do not represent simply what was showed, and it's sad that the main message of the video was to hope for Aecio or Marina to win and bring change. What we really need in our country is eradicate extreme poverty and policies that focus on better wealth distribution!

That is one of the worst political's analysis that I have ever seen.. This guy needs to study more about what happens here. Free market is the best way ? Almost 80% of the Americans live near the line of poverty.. Think about it !
If you don't trust me, google it. -
Brazil will choose between the Mexican model (free market economy) and the Denmark's model (social democrat ). I believe that Brazil will move to the direction of Denmark, but the challenge will be to increase the quality of life without increasing the taxes. It will be only possible with a better productivity and a intense tax reform, making the brazilian tax code more similar to the USA's code.
