In 2007, Richmond, California, had one of the highest murder rates in the country. Turf wars spurred shootouts and reprisal killings in a seemingly endless cycle. Desperate, the city created the Office of Neighborhood Safety to engage with those directly involved in the violence. Just because this works now DOESN'T mean it will stay this way. They're taking guns away from law abiding folk while simultaneously releasing felons, Governor Brown has failed us.

i grew up in the worst part of richmond and every night i would hear gun shots and after a while it was just a normal thing and there was drug dealers across the street from me for like 2 years and every once in a while they'd get in fights and there'd be gun shots outside my house and police and like helicopters and stuff every few weeks or months and that became normal which is crazy

For those who want more information, Richmond is a small city of about 100,000 people North East of San Francisco. Sadly, although Richmond recorded only 11 murders in 2014(it's lowest level ever recorded) this year there have already been 25 murders. So obviously this plan hasn't worked out. Although not nearly has bad as it was a decade ago, murders have skyrocketed the last few years in Richmond.

Is this the place that was set in Coach Carter ?

this is a good project

I think stopping the guns and drugs from entering the black community would be a major step in curbing the violence. my people perish for lack of knowledge they need to know that this is one of the root cause of their destruction as a community and a people but they also have to help themselves by educating themselves and their children each one teach one as for the ones that know. they must also seek God because without God they can't do anything, I can do all things through christ Jesus who strengthens me.

hahaha fence this cop driving in random ass places.

I live in the same county as Richmond. I couldn't imagine living in an area where your life is on the line everyday.

Drugs are fueling the mutiny within communities, the lack of opportunities inflicts despair.Substance abuse provides a temporary relief,of which, amplifies one's problems and doesn't help deal with them in a constructive manner.Effective problem solving needs to be taught by those who've overcome substance abuse for a better life thereby being the power of example required !!

This is normal in new zealand. Instead of 'Protect and serve' or whatever is on US police cars, NZ's say 'Safer communities together'. I grew up around my local constables, i know they want to help
-
I just have to say one thing. Hispanics are the majority in Richmond. This only focuses on African Americans. I wonder why?
-
People who push gun control are not anti-gun because their actually pro gun, it's just their pro gun in the hands of government and a small number of politically connected elite and if they deny it their full of shit or just stupid.
-
I remember d'vondre went to my school... it's real everybody got along in hs. And after hs is when everybody was really funkin.... nothing to do but get caught up in that bs cycle
-
Community out reach is definetly the reason for our lower gun violence numbers. Richmond may be a rough city but I know these police officers from growing up here and never once feel afraid of their presence like I do with the neighboring towns police officers
-
"He was shot 42 times" To a European that kind of numbers are truly shocking.
-
So Richmond bribed the bad guys and call it peace. I guess cowardice and appeasement work for some people. Let the police look like heroes and everything will be ok?
-
California still is number one on homicide done by a gun.... and yet has the strictest gun laws on the west coast folks. Anti gun laws were never meant to curb crime or stop criminals from using guns. The stupid gun laws were meant to restrict the law abiding citizens of their rights to have or own firearms folks.

Just watched part 1&2. Great videos. Gives hope to being able break old bad habits.

gun control makes things worse. It takes away guns from good people while the bad guys will never bother to turn in their guns. Thus good people become easy targets to be robbed or mugged because they have no means to dish out retributive punishment.
Crime and violence have plummeted in all "shall issue" concealed carry permit states and it has worked wonders for Chicago in the last year or two. Unfortunately, California hasn't got the message yet.
GUNS ARE GOOD. There is an assault rifle in every Swiss home and it's one of the safest, most peaceful, and prosperous places on Earth. Hitler didn't invade Switzerland because the millions of people who lived there were all strapped up!!
