Human Population Growth - Crash Course Ecology #3
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
If being alive on Earth were a contest, humans would win it hands down. We're like the Michael Phelps of being alive, but with 250,000 times more gold medals. Today Hank is here to tell us the specifics of why and how human population growth has happened over the past hundred and fifty years or so, and how those specifics relate to ecology. I don't understand anything OMG

Nice New South Wales joke.

lol

This explains the intro to Idiocracy beautifully. Perhaps the human race will split into R-selective and S-selective reproduction as in The Time Machine.
-
Im learning a lot from these videos, but its getting annoying listening to Hank trying to be cool with that lazy droll way of talking. It's a documentary, not MTV's top 10 Music Videos of the Year.

I know it's a recurring theme throughout this whole series, but once again they/he butchered the pronunciation of a (to them) foreign name.
Lavenhook?
You know you're in trouble when google translator does a better job :s -
I think it would've been very important to point out that feeding vegans occupies even less land than feeding vegetarians. According to some estimations, if the whole world went vegan and we stopped feeding all of our food (up to 70% of all grains produced in the US) to animals, we could raise our carrying capacity greatly, as more and would be available to grow food for humans. And we would also save millions of tons of water, greatly reduce our waste and most importantly, we would give wildlife a chance to recover after human intervention almost annihilated it

I like that he says human population is a problem that needs to be dealt with, "and I think every other species on the planet would agree with me on that."
-
Did you know India is the fastest growing economy (7.5% ) ,One of the top 20 richest countries and the one with the largest population?(He He). Yes, Hank, it's for you.
Oh?? this video was in 2012? -
Humans need a nerf

"Families in most industrialized countries are getting smaller and smaller."
"As women in developed nations get more education, they're having babies later in life."
With the exception of the Japanese, this overwhelmingly means White People. None of these apply to countries such as India or any Arab or African countries, which is why White demographic decline is such a very big issue facing the world, since such things as women's rights and liberal democracy and freedom were pioneered, defended, and built upon by white people, never mind the countless cultural and technological contributions we made to science, art, history and pretty much everything else.
The amount of good that the White Race has done for the world is extremely hard to quantify because of its sheer enormity, and to the woman living in the western world, it's very hard to understand how their freedoms can be completely taken away from them if the cultures of Syria or India or Somalia become dominant in their countries. And no, with the amount of immigrants currently flooding inside the western world, it is all but impossible for them to fully "assimilate" to western culture, as evidenced by the current happenings in Europe.
Also Hank, your city analogy only works in western countries. Having been to India, I can most assuredly tell you that kids are as much of an asset to a parent on a farm as in a city. In such countries as India, Child labor is still widespread, which further encourages childbirth. This explanation of yours is only possible in the liberal western democracy you currently live in. The same applies to birth control. It's a western amenity that can quickly be taken away. -
this episode reminds me a lot of Dan Brown's book Inferno
-
oops children are people too!
-
Simple go to Mars. Problem solved.
-
Watching this and listening to Frederic Chopin - Nocturne op.9 No.2 ...this video became 10 times more epic than it initially was.
-
One time for the oops children!
-
White population doesn't grow exponentially. So if you want to know what is the modern human's carrying capacity and what are the main limiting factors, you should have a good look at Europe.
-
When you're not worried about overpopulation cuz you gone be dead by then. Lol.
-
So we're heading for the end.
