The head of the International Monetary Fund has warned that global economic growth is likely to be weaker than earlier expected due to a slower recovery in advanced economies and a further slowdown in emerging nations. Speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday, Christine Lagarde said the IMF expects global growth to remain moderate and likely weaker than it anticipated last July. The IMF in July forecast global growth at three-point-three percent this year, a tad below last year′s three-point-four percent. Lagarde also acknowledged that China′s economy is slowing as it transitions into more of a market-based economy. She also cautioned that the near future could be bumpy for emerging economies that are so reliant on the world′s second-biggest economy for trade.
