Immanuel Wallerstein's World Systems Analysis
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
Immanuel Wallerstein took Marx's ideas about exploitation and applied them to his contemporary views of society. His World Systems Theory explains globalization and the market economy as exploitative tools which keep some countries in power over others.

What will the effect of the 4th industrial revolution and a post scarcity world be?

Now that we a clear understanding about the problem, what is the solution? It appears to me that those nations that are dependent upon the "core" nations = (White), will continue to stay in that position unless and until the "core" nations find a way to exploit them in such a way as to benefit them. Which brings me to another very telling point - Africa is not even listed as "Periphery". The message is clear; Africa, at least for the foreseeable future has NO CHANCE of becoming independent. Why? My theory is this: The "core" nations cannot survive without the natural resources Africa supplies to them. Although, in Wallerstein's view Africa is dependent upon these "core" nations, IMHO the reality is the opposite. Peace.

Extremely informative. Thank you for the short video and examples of these concepts.

If all the truth that is presented by academic fellows was adopted and implemented in the real life situations i think the world would be a better place to live in than it is now because of the unfair relations that exist especially between the so called developed countries and the developing countries.
-
That is very explicit. How can these developing nations get themselves out of the hook or mense?

Thank you Debra for a concise presentation...

Thanks a lot Debra, this is a really good explanation. I got a lot of help from it.

Does seem a very iterant model. Good explanation of the theory.

Because of the title of this video I thought you would expand more on the whole World Systems Theory, not just Wallerstein's three tiers. I'm really confused on his first two tenets, and the video didn't help on that. But your analysis of his third tenet (the three teir one) was fine, so thank you for that.

This has been so helpful. Thank you.
