Immigration - Global humanitarian reasons for current U.S. immigration are tested in this updated version of immigration author and journalist Roy Beck's colorful presentation of data from the World Bank and U.S. Census Bureau. The 1996 version of this immigration gumballs presentation has been one of the most viewed immigration policy presentations on the internet. Presented by immigration author/journalist Roy Beck Learn More http://www.NumbersUSA.org NumbersUSA Education & Research Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that favors an environmentally sustainable and economically just America and seeks to educate the public about the effects of high levels of immigration on U.S. overpopulation, the environment, jobs, and wages. We use government data to conduct research on the impacts of U.S. population growth, consumption, sprawl, and current levels of immigration and educate the public, opinion leaders and policy makers on the results of those and other studies.

+lethalbee The catch is that all the resources spent on recieving and integrating (even if failed) immigrants could make a difference for far more people. If the better part of it was spent on dealing with the cause of the problems instead of expensive, short-term, individual help for immigrants it would have a greater effect.
Simplified, what this means is that resources is spent in the problem area / country, destroying the causes of people becoming poor, uneducated, harassed, controlled, abused and turning refugees, instead of spending it on allowing huge immigration with ineffective integration. Which will result in extreme reduction of poverty and a massive rises in different qualities of life (for all the people of that certain country, instead of the very few actually making it to another country).
With this being said, I'm not neccessarily trying to say that there is something wrong with immigration and taking care of refugees/people in need. Just saying which would have greater results. -
Excellent presentation

Outsourcing is a way to drive down wages and so is immigration. This isn't about helping the poor, it is about helping the rich. For every immigrant that comes to America and is lifted out of poverty another American is driven into poverty. This is especially true in the construction industry. Wages today in many construction trades when adjusted for inflation are lower than they were 30 years ago. Like so much of what we think we know it is all about perception and not reality.

Hats off! Such an entertaining and simple presentation, which shows - the days of KINGS and SERFS has NEVER ended - pigs on another man's farm we all are - until our SLUMBER CEASES...and good luck with that lol!

What is the point?
-
Who runs the World Bank and is their data reliable?
-
No one believes the first one, at least not that it alone can solve it. But that immigration helps SOME people is beyond doubt, because people that were not able to live safe, healthy lives can do that somewhere else. People commenting here, and this character in the film as well, seem to think that immigration is useless if it cannot, by itself, completely erradicate world poverty. Who said that it can? It's about helping the individual immigrants that do migrate.
-
Who actually believes that immigration can solve global poverty? Who actually believes that immigration laws have ANYTHING to do with helping the plight of impoverished people?
-
Mr Beck Can you make one about Europa too? thank you sir for this video.
-
I think you are missing the point. It's not making a dent in the problem. The country from whence they come is no better off. They need to be better off by staying where they are.
-
I have for a long time thought if foreigners come to the US for their education, that they should be required go back home and make the change there. They may not stay here. This uses numbers to prove me right.
-
and the only ones who were able to migrate are the ones who were earning more than $100 a day from poor countries. Imagine that. Immigration is no help indeed.

What needs to be done is to bring the level of legal immigration back to the early 1970's level or less, <200,000. After the mass European emigration and WWI, we cut down drastically, closing our borders virtually until the end of WWII and then in 70's immigration really soared beyond optimal level and now seeing the effects here in the US and Europe. Certainly needs to be reduced otherwise the predominating culture and customs and norms and society will be overrun and eventually deteriorate.

The corrupt political elites of the west do not represent (or care about) the peoples of their countries. They are all bought and payed for by powerful economic interests who in their turn want those conflicts in the third world. Most ordinary westerners do not want these wars and foreign entanglements at all, neither have they asked for the mass immigration from the third world.
-
Yes and on top of that a lot of people from neighboring countries who CLAIM that they are from Syria and Eritrea. It is nothing but utter madness, even if all where real refugees and mass immigration from from developing countries would be beneficial for Sweden and other western countries (which it's not) we can't help them all. If try to, we will ruin ourselves economically (And Sweden is currently heading towards economic ruin. This cannot last for much longer! We cannot afford it!)
-
How are you pro-immigration, Bob? Just curious...
-
Feel you Sweden , here in Finland we are soon in that same mess you are allready

Just because US is rather wealthy country compared to other countries, does not mean we must cure all world ills. It is impossible task, expensive and futile the way other countries are not curbing their population growth. United Stated can not possible afford to take the world problems as it's own. The only cure is for the countries with the large population explosion is to cure themselves and educate their people to stop having children. They must take responsibility for their own country

Still, immigrants make exelent "slave" working force, In sweden you can hire someone for less than 2 dollars per day to do the work of someone that would normaly pay 9 dollars.
