Over years, from both my research and personal experience i've came to a conclusion that communication skills is extremely important.
The way i'm going about to improve myself in this area is by doing toastmaster (about 5 months now) and improv (about a month). Do you know any other ways I can improve communication skills?
ps books are great but they lack feedbacks that an organization or mentor can provide. -
If Scooby was a programmer...

We hired an outsource PHP developer and it was a very bad idea. The PHP dev had horrible customer service skills. and about 48-72 hrs turn around time to answer an email. NOT saying this for everyone, but it was a very bad investment for our team. If we need something fixed very quickly, it took a long time to reply. And they kept asking for more money to fix their own bugs/errors (which they created). You get what you pay for sometimes.

I've worked with developers on the subcontinent quite a few times and I've yet to see anything that would make me feel threatened. The skill level is very basic. It is a mistake to send anything that way other than the donkey work. Indian developers who are any good at what they do move to the west where they can get paid a lot more.
There is still a big skills shortage in the industry and if you want to stay ahead of the curve, just make sure you continue advancing your skills. If you don't want to move into a non-tech role (like business analysis or project management) then advance your tech skills. I'm not talking about learning new languages, learn about optimisation, machine learning, GPU programming. You will increase your value and separate yourself from programmers who spend their days writing basic CRUD functionality. -
Well, it's capitalism. You love capitalism, right?? Well, in capitalism the elite 1% that owns everybody and everything is the one who decides where to go and they want to cut costs.
Why paying a north american hysterical female $4000/month for a dumb job, where she would always wave a list of "her rights" in front of your face, if a Chinese or Indian/Indonesian female is more than happy to do the same job for $300-400 dollars/month??
And no, no one is safe. And most top managers won't think like you do, they're pretty simple and greedy and they will outsource even more. It's pretty obvious from the attitude where in North America hiring managers do everything to NOT TO GIVE YOU the job, while in central Europe where I lived before coming to Canada, companies used to beg me so I'd go work for them, of course for a lower salary, but the jobs were there.
In my opinion, you need to create a product that is or will be in demand. Only then you might survive. And I'm not talking about the socio-economical crisis we're going through since 2007. -
well..you can do it like Bob did, he outsorced his job to China and spended his work days surfing the net and watching cat videos
