Is Taiwan a country... or part of China?
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
A look at the complex political situation on the island of Taiwan. The island of Taiwan is administered by the Republic of China, which lost the Chinese Civil War to the Communists which control the mainland to this day, proclaiming the People's Republic of China in 1949. Both the ROC and the PRC claim to be the legitimate government of China. Taiwan is a de facto independent country but is not a member of the United Nations since being replaced in 1971 by the PRC. The current situation is stuck in a stalemate with the two ways of resolving the dispute (unification and independence) both seeming very unlikely to happen any time soon. This is how I view East Asia,
The PRC is illegitimate
The ROC is the legitimate Chinese government but is currently occupying Japanese land
Indonesia the Philippines Manchuria Hawaii Australia Polynesia and of course Taiwan belongs to Japan. -
The reason China is hostile to Taiwan is because they dont want US bases so close to their country. It is the same reason for China backing N.Korea despite no economic or political gain.

11:25. where is the picture from?

It's quite a good explanation of the issue of Taiwan/part of China. It presents the viewer a lot of historical materials such as old pictures and some clips of old documentary. The job is well done.

Great job, liked the subscribed.

Another very good video, thanks.
Just missing the part that during the WW2 the KMT (the nationalists) did the vast majority of the fighting against the Japanese. After the war, Mao taking advantage of the weakened KMT army conquered China. -
Very good and clear explanation . Neutral . Doesn't side with anyone across both sides of the Taiwan strait .

The ROC in my opinion is another Chnese state. Sure it was expelled from the UN, but de facto it is an independent state. All I wish is that relations with Mainland China improve.

Sad that those Chinese can't even view youtube in China, they have to jump over the firewall to talk shit!

China and Taiwan are like Mordor and Shire.
The main problem with unification comes down to the difference in ideology.
In China, the nation's interest, government policies, the economy comes before individual. They have over-developed their lands, the skies are filled with smaug, their waters heavily polluted, their forests are chopped down, and they are burning coals all the time.
In my country, human rights, freedom of speech, public health care systems are the priorities. LGBT marriage bills are going to pass in the upcoming months, and environmental issues are the citizen's prioritized concerns.
Most Chinese want a big and prosperous empire, but Taiwanese people only want a humble and comfortable home to call their own. -
I was born in Taipei, it is part of china. Taiwanese are just in denials.

+WonderWhy, I wonder why stupid filthy Indian like you think your opinion carries any weight in this part of the word when you should spend more time focusing on your Indus Pakistan quarrel...you people are stupid to think Taiwan and China are stupid like your kind and will go into war for anything.

Can you please Make a video on Antarctica?

The Nationalist and Communist China be like, "hold on, let's fight the Japanese together!" then "Well, the Japs are gone, let's carry on our previous war!". Now, I can say that both Nationalist and Communist governments of China were as evil as each other at some point.

Yah, California, Texas and Florida
-
Funny thing is that Panama still recognize the Republic of China as the legitimate government of China.

臺灣是中國一部分

If Taiwan "Province" becomes a country (high hopes for that) they should incorporate their Olympic flag in their current flag, for the design is simply stunning.
