Relations between Western allies and Russia have been deteriorating since early 2014. SIPRI’s International Governing Board members discuss what is driving this process and what can be done to ameliorate it. Dr Vladimir Baranovsky is the Deputy Director of the premier Russian research institute, IMEMO, in Moscow, Chair of the Dissertation Council of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Vice President of the Association for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, and a board member of the Russian Political Science Association. The interviews were conducted as part of a discussion, “Security in Europe: Is it a new cold war? – or how to avoid one”, led by Director Dan Smith at SIPRI on May 17, 2016 on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of the international SIPRI Governing Board. SIPRI is an independent international institute dedicated to research into conflict, armaments, arms control and disarmament.
