Contact us through http://contributenow.jdrftypeone.com Since its founding more than 40 years ago by parents of children affected by type 1 diabetes, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has been committed to finding a cure for all those individuals living with the disease. Today, JDRF acknowledges that this commitment will not likely be fulfilled in the near term. Although our ultimate goal—curing type 1 diabetes—remains unchanged, we are equally committed to better treating and preventing the disease. These goals aim to ensure that both children and adults living with type 1 diabetes remain healthy so that they can fully benefit from a cure when it becomes available. JDRF focuses on supporting the development and delivery of new therapies and devices that will ease the daily burden and challenges of managing type 1 diabetes and on the prevention of diabetes complications. Additionally to protect future generations from developing type 1 diabetes JDRF is supporting approaches to prevent the disease. http://www.louisvillefoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/2014-2015_UofL_Foundation_Donor_Honor_Roll-WEB.pdf jdrf kentucky aflred f. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. So a few years ago, we changed our name to JDRF: Juvenile Diabetes Reseach Foundation. People with T1D would never benefit from JDRF-funded innovations without our donors. The work to create transformational therapies to help people live with T1D cannot—and must not—be allowed to stop because dedicated researchers lack funds. Laboratory studies that are unlocking the mysteries of T1D and accelerating progress toward a cure and prevention must continue. With the generous help of supporters like you, JDRF is pursuing a diversified, dynamic research agenda that is moving us ever closer to a world without T1D. If you live with T1D, you spend a lot of time thinking about your blood-sugar levels now and worrying about the complications that T1D may one day bring. The City of Fort Smith with a population of 86,209 is the hub of a diverse economy, a rich history, and a promising future. Home to Arkansas’ oldest symphony orchestra and the state’s oldest continuously-running volunteer little theatre, Fort Smith is also steeped in Old West lore, from books and films like True Grit to some colorful real-world characters like Belle Starr, Judge Isaac C. Parker, U.S. Deputy Marshal Bass Reeves, and the Founder of the U.S. Army Rangers, General William O. Darby. The U.S. Army established Fort Smith as a military outpost in 1817. Jessica, a young woman with diabetes, joined JDRF Ride and tells about her experience being a cyclist. JDRF coaches help and support everyone, who joins the ride. Jessica is sure, that everyone can be a cyclist, especially with JDRF team. What is more important, that is the wish – it’s not about cycling a hundred miles in a high speed – it’s about self-esteem and self-belief. JDRF coaches struggle together with T1D people and they win together. They are amazing and give T1D people hope and true faith in their strength. Jessica isn’t unique in her experience – many people with diabetes like Jessica joined HDRF Ride team and now are stronger in their disease battle.
