2. I put the blame squarely on Mussolini. A leader should always know the capabilities of his forces. He was the greatest fucking peacock in history. His armed forces had the same supplies as late war Japan. Seriously. Sending such under supplied troops into battle was nothing more than sheer stupidity. Even a basic blunder such as invading Greece, which was easy to defend, with such meager resources. The Italian army would have been better off, had it all volunteered to join the German army, then they could at least bolster the infantry line which was sorely needed later in the war...
   
   This might just be random 2am ramblings, but they're my ramblings and I love them...

5. In the U.S., in the general public, there is no "the Romanians were bad troops" in WWII bias. However, my whole life Italian soldiering in WWII has been a matter of jest. Thanks for revealing the truth regarding their lack of military success like you did with the Romanian military. FYI, I just texted my eldest son to start watching your videos. :)
6. Thank you for posting this. Though I have read much about WW2 - most US submarine efforts in the Pacific - I have not seen much about the Italian effort. My father was with Patton's 3rd Army along with his younger brother. After the war he found out that he had cousins in the Whermacht as both Dad's and Mom's family came to the USA from the Duchy of Oldenburg in the 1860s.
7. Outstanding presentation, as always, well documented and focusing on the big picture which is easier for the non-scholars to follow. Your presentations are becoming also more detailed and more focused as you produce them which is useful to people that have more interest in details of WW II. No hay excusas para decir que no lucharon bien porque estaban mal equipados, hasta los japoneses que estaban aislados en en sus islas sin mas recursos lucharon mejor, tampoco se puede decir que no era su guerra y no habia razon de pelearla, que rusia era tierra lejana para los italianos pues hasta mexicanos y canadienses combatieron desde el otro lado del mar fueron a combatir , hay que aceptar que los italianos eran cobardes y bajos de moral, para eso esta la propaganda militar y las paradas militares que son las que deben instar a los hombres a luchar. Hasta los romanos con lanzas y espadas habrían combatido mejor.

No comprendo como Italia con mussolini quien entró al poder muchos años antes que hitler no pudo armarse para la guerra, toda europa sabia que una vendría una guerra, que iba a ser inevitable, no se si es correcto pensar que pues como no expulsaron a los judíos de italia este pais no se armo a proposito, (ya saben como son los judíos, siempre pensando en sus. Intereses) controlando bancos italianos y no financiaban al ejercito italiano.

11. Have you ever heard of these weapons? Semovente 90/53, Semovente da 75/18, and the Italian use of 90mm antiaircraft guns in the anti tank role.

15. Would I be wrong to assume the Italians adopted a Pre-WW1 "British style" of military, like that of the British expeditionary force in early 1914? My thought goes, having witnessed how awful the first world war was, the Italian nation didn't really want another world war and thus never prepared itself as such with mass industrialization, by comparison to soviet Russia during the inter war period. And, having seen how inefficient massive conscript armies could be in the first world war and how costly it all was, they went for a smaller, highly mobile army and military.
    
    Perhaps the First world war influenced them to change their entire military to an offensive, mobile army that could operate in the mountains, hence the smaller artillery calibers, possible larger usage of lightweight mortars than the German army at the start of WW2? and their Light tanks which never seem to have been intended for tank-vs-tank scenarios but appear to be suited for highly mobile warfare in mountainous terrain, where perhaps larger tanks would be a disadvantage. This would make the whole army a mostly offensive one, light weight and quick to move (technically?), but some commentators point out that the Italians we're often used in defensive roles when used in German offensives, so perhaps they wern't playing to their strengths.
    
    This is all just one massive assumption I made, its obviously never as straight forward as that, but I was trying to look at the broader picture.
16. Respects all soldiers? If people weren't so willing to serve masters 90% of the worlds misery would be solved instantly.

19. it's a great video and it perfectly reveals the key point of tragic Mussolini bet, bringing a totally unprepared country to war hoping war would have ended quickly and it would have stayed within Europe. Let me just amend the part I didn't actually liked, despite your reasoning at the end of the video I can't accept listening the word coward associated to Italian soldiers, the same soldiers sent into the Russian winter wearing cardboard boots, same soldiers who didn't step back in El Alamein overwhelmed by British artillery, with no water to drink, no ammunition, no fuel and no transportation. Regarding ww1 turning against the former allies, let me remind that alliance was a defensive pact, the moment war was initiated by Austrians and Germans, Italy was not bound to any alliance. The broken pact was rather the invasion of a neutral country, such as Belgium, by the Germans.
    
    I read something in the comments below I do appreciated, a simple and great piece of truth: there is not such a thing as bad soldiers, there are only bad officers.
20. Something's wrong whenever tribesmen are able to destroy your tanks with only spears and slings. Italy was probably more of a hindrance to Germany than benefit.
