Japan has many many problems its so expensive most have to work like 60-80 hours a week and cannot afford or have time to settle down or have kids hence the aging population.

money printing never produces real wealth - but merely transfers wealth from the common people to the elites. a weak yen might be good for companies like toyota but the people will have to pay a lot more for imports

What I don't understand is how Japan can be down and out, and yet still be the top producer per capita in industries such as steel, shipbuilding, autos, and advanced electronics. It's people are not starving, it has a relatively low unemployment rate, and yet it is still floundering. Can anyone explain?

So basically Japan wants to do what US (and I also believe China) has been doing all this while. Let's see who's printing machine fails first. Let's see who wins the printing war.

will work in the short term but will be a disaster long term. Artificial inflation will create artificial highs and false signals that signal to buy when you should save. This means that consumption would go up when it should go down so as to produce more savings for reinvestment. Interest rates will remain low leading to further consumption and soon prices will rise really fast. Meanwhile wage averages will stay the same and the gap between wages and rising prises will be a dangerous bubble.
