http://www.jcipp.curtin.edu.au Global developments, such as the continued volatility in the North Atlantic and the growth of emerging economies, are leading to structural changes in the Australian economy. These changes create great opportunities but pose significant challenges. Changes are also placing pressure on revenue growth and the fiscal position at all levels of government, which have been exacerbated by ageing of the Australian population and expectations for the government provision of services. The Australian community needs to have a considered debate about the types of services it wants provided into the future and how these should best be funded. About the Speaker: Dr Martin Parkinson PSM is Secretary to the Treasury, succeeding Dr Ken Henry in March 2011. He is a member of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Board of Taxation, Infrastructure Australia and Council of Financial Regulators. He is also Chair of the Advisory Board of the Australian Office of Financial Management.
