The leaders of Kazakhstan and Russia spoke in Astana, Tuesday, where they agreed to support joint bilateral projects, despite existing restrictions. The meeting of the leaders took place ahead of the 13th Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum in Astana. SOT, Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan (Russian): "Kazakhstan is actively improving the investment climate and the diversification of its economy. The inflow of direct foreign investment into the country's economy over the past 15 years has reached $260 billion. Due to this fact, we saw good growth. In the World Bank ranking of the Ease of Doing Business, Kazakhstan occupies 41st place in the world. We continue a consistent modernisation of the economy on the basis of, and maybe you already know, a national plan called "One hundred exact steps" aimed at reaching the level of developed OECD countries." SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): "For Russia, Kazakhstan is a strategic partner and ally. Our cooperation is multifaceted and, as it is said, comprehensive, it is steadily growing in all directions. Our bilateral trade and investment ties have reached a very high level. Kazakhstan has already accumulated $9 billion in Russian investments, and Russia received $3 billion from Kazakhstan. We have jointly created about 6,000 enterprises, the cooperation in practically all sectors of the economy is becoming more profound. Just last year Kazakhstan was visited by about 150 Russian business delegations." SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): "We are implementing the programmes of industrial and technological cooperation. Russia launched the process of harmonisation of sectoral legislation. We are simplifying administrative procedures, creating a common market with Kazakhstan in road and railway services, air and overseas traffic."
