Killer Application - 'The Knowledge Economy defining element
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
The Boss asks to see the progress of the web site when the technician shows him a flaming logo - just flash and superficial graphic art. Not the application that would 'change everything'....all of the disparate systems to be linked and be able to securely exchange valuable content. Example A: Confirm the angora red sweater is in size 7.7 before promising the customer an exact delivery date. Example B: Citibank transfering $1Bil to Bank of America. Exactly one transaction has to occur, not two not zero, in spite of a backhoe cutting a T3 fiber trans con trunk or ANY OTHER POSSIBLE failure scenario. Example C: A team of 'ethical hackers' continually tests the extended intranet linking your organization with the thousands of suppliers and customers. Example D: A World Market leader (Walmart) is created from 'scratch' by lowering costs faster than their competitors by requiring all suppliers to be networked and adopt evolving best practices. HAHAHAHA, I remember this one from back in the 90's, and yes I would like to see the cable jiggling one as well. It's so true though this ad kinda holds up today, as a manager you ask someone to create a website and they create the best looking website (actually copied from somewhere else) but when it comes down to the functions you want you get ahh well....
