Martin Jacques and Shashi Tharoor discuss China and India
Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
As part of the Credit Suisse Global Megatrends Conference. 21st April 2016, Singapore. Moderated by Martin Soong (CNBC Asia). By 2030, China and India’s economies are forecast to collectively be twice as large as that of the United States. The discussion explored which of the two powers will emerge as the larger economy in the next decade. From their types of government to their economic policies, however, each country is distinctly different. In a pluralist, multipolar world, is a “China versus India” debate still relevant? If so, who will emerge economically stronger and why? Is it policy, politics, resources, or demographics that provide an advantage to one over the other?

三哥还是那么笨! Long live the Indian! And yes, stop bullying the Pakistani

China has done most in uplifting the 3rd world countries. The AIIB originally focused on asian countries is now extending beyond to no boundaries. What the poor countries need is infrastructure to initiate progress, getting out of poverty.
Can yoga or bollywood change anything in 3rd world countries ?
Come on, be realistic. It is the thousands of years of profound culture and philosophy with the resolve to excel in 35 years. There's no other country that is comparable to China in contributing to the world esp in leading the 3rd world out of poverty. Looking at history, what has the western powers done to those weak states like Africa or Asia. The western countries or those that instead of helping other nations, committed the worst atrocities ever in history.
Oh please sashi, be realistic, the infrastructure problems and rampant rape cases are india's biggest obstacles to economic and social progress. And please,China has few thousand years of civilisation and we need not subscribe to western so called democracy. india is foolish to be dominated by a western system that actually retards your progress. And who are you to teach or criticise China for human rights issues when india is still having the most absurd caste system. -
fuck nationalism and love india from china, and please stop bullying our pakistani friends.
-
There are no real 'private companies' in China.....and all their technology is STOLEN.....they are not innovative except discovering new ways to steal stuff from the west.
-
FUCK OFF YOU BUNCH OF COMMUNIST CREEPS
-
Learn about the ancient wisdom of China such as Yijing or Laozi, then you will know the real China, which is profound in wisdom and truth.
-
I think Martin is full of shit as he is very biased towards China on all fronts.
-
Martial arts, Tai Chi, daoism, confucianism , Chinese medicine, acupuncture, Chinese language, Chinese food, Chinese philosophy (unique combination of Buddhism, confucianism, and daoism), the philosophy and wisdom stored in all the Chinese classics, like art of War, Mozi, poetry, historical records for 3000 years and so and so on are all soft power, it takes time to materialize ,but it is coming.
-
Martin Jacques is accurate as fuck!!
-
Hey Martin, your talks are full of sh**t, Chinese is civilization nation, not state nation? What type of cracks are you smoking? Define what is 'civilization nation' and what is 'state nation' then. Chinese ancient history is no difference from western ancient history, the only difference is that Chinese culture didn't go through the same transition during renaissance, that makes Chinese culture still ancient even today. As a Chinese, I don't appreciate you are acting as a big dirty mouthpiece of Chinese commie. That doesn't help Chinese people at all. Get a life, would you?

It is totally meaningless to discuss about whether china will be dominant in how many years or whatsoever. It is also meaningless to discuss about the soft power of China. All the negative predictions about china by the western "experts" in the past thirty years or so have been proved wrong. If the west (and India of course) still keeps looking down upon china with a sense of superiority which comes from nowhere, the only harm of this bias would be applied to the west ( and India more). Many people have been laughing at china during the past 176 years. If we track the growing path of china throughout this time, it is obvious to know who is right and who is not. So why not just shut up and let time tell us who is the winner of the 21st century.

This video proves to us talking king vs practical king. Or mouth vs hand; Or noise vs action; Or India vs China; Or dreaming vs doing.
-
Shashi Tharoor, little bit ignorant on Chinese culture but understandable he's Indian.
-
Well , it seems like India will be as strong as China by this professor . Let 's see how things go ! Interesting
-
And the question about the growing Chinese oversea students, it's true that the number is growing and the motivation varies. But I can tell you that most of them go back for building a better China, a few stay overseas but the tie with our motherland never disappears. In my opinion, a true strong civilisation is always open to the world, encouraging the exchange, understanding different culture, for a better motherland and the world. Unlike the yankees saying U.S is the best place to be, coz the day you stop evolving, is the day you start dying.

Build more toilets first then we can talk, India. And stop mentioning Japanese story, China is no one's puppet, like Japan.
-
this guy Shashi Tharoor is good at talking, but full of bullshit!
-
Why Shashi Taroor is batting for the Western view that somehow Chinese miracle will fade away? He need not be, India need not be. Why China can't be innovative to that matter why any country can't be innovative? it all boils down to money spent of innovation.
-
lel i dont see the point whats the point blaming this indian sod for something which holds fair logical sense if you look at it without puting nationalism in context.
india do not want to compete with a system which is efficient but conventional.
chineses are innovative all humans are no doubt about it but its state lead
indians does its innvoation on its own -
Well if the Indian wants to berate China and chest thumb himself into illusory grandeur, let him. Get him a bowl of curry too, I m going for curry later
