Friedman is a fool.

Free Trade, and Capitalism are hated because of the following:
1. Governments hate it, because in a free market, people are the freest, and they are not dependent upon the Government for their survival, which is not what the oligarchy wants. It is far easier to rule people in a socialist system, as the Government controls the majority of all of the activity in the country.
2. Parasites, and lazy people do not want to work for their keep, they want a free handout. A lot of these people run Government, or work for Government, which is why they continually vote for more and more socialism, mainly because it benefits them, and their network of people. -
Such a hero:)

This is what the so called "Reagan conservatives" get completely wrong. They all advocate protectionist policies.
Reagan himself was a supply side advocate much influenced by the work and policies advocated by Friedman himself.
The contradiction by Republicans in reference to free trade is that free trade is essential in free market economics. Advocating protectionist policies in essence is limiting producers to a domestic market, and coercing consumers to participate in a domestic market against their will. If a foreign country can produce something cheaper then it is in the best interest of the country to engage in trade. If Republicans are such proponents of liberty, smaller government, and pro business, then it is entirely contradictory to tell producers and consumers they cannot seek out the cheaper good or commodity to enhance their earnings.
The foreign policy of capitalism is free trade, trade will bring about peace. Not protectionist policies advocated by the collectivist socialist.
If we are to continue a market driven economy, guided by prices, and the laws of demand, then we ought to engage in trade and not limit the consumer to more expensive goods simply because it will sustain employment for a few domestically. Cheaper goods lead to more expendable dollars for the consumer thus resulting in higher standards of living. Trade is what is what benefits the poor consumer.
Are we to assume a poor consumer rather buy his milk and bread with zero dollars left over? Or buy his milk and bread with $3 left over?
Let me close and say, the U.S. currently runs a surplus in services and a deficit in goods. Any Austrian economist will tell you manufacturing, and labor intensive production is a sign of a infant economy. Market based economies evolve from labor intensive to capital intensive. -

OMG, like we just needed to embrace NAFTA a little harder, lol
I like Friedman, but he just couldn't be more wrong on this.
and while time has proven this right, yet there are still soooo many here they just don't get it.
yeah, friedman is great, I agree, but the man can be wrong.
friedman is agreeing with Al Gore......
Free markets are great, but when you have countries, you need to look after the best interests of your country, or at least have an even trade agreement.
China looks out for their country/economy, and they are the ones with all the jobs and money, we’re the country that has nothing but retail and some service jobs, and that’s about it.
china engage in trade, but they aren’t stupid about it, they don’t just buy buy buy and think that some how that would be good for them in the long run like the US does.
Anybody not understanding this basic truth should check out peter schiff videos, as he can explain it mush better then I can in a paragraph
Bring it down to a household level, if you keep buying more then you bring in, things will not go on for ever that way….
Friedman never says what happens to those that aren’t on the top of the technology sector…. and that's about 90% of us.... They can eat cake I guess. -
lets get rid of all the income tax we pay to the fat lazy government.
-
Another timeless classic.
Now, Hayek next please... -
Miltons legacy lives on. I'd never heard of Milton Friedman until after his death; his lectures and TV series has had a profound effect on my political opinion and views on social and economic issues.
