Friedman was always on the side of the strong, never said a word to protect the weak because he was afraid of sounding as a communist. He´s like the photographer who was taking pictures of the dying boy being attacked by vultures and did not move a finger to stop the vultures. He was right sometimes, but playing the devil´s role on the earth most of the time.

Seems a bit of a strawman. No one is arguing (apart from the nutters) to take capitalism away completely. The point is that there needs to be checks and balances. Unfettered free markets leads to the stronger getting stronger and the weak getting weaker.

The world wide web was created for free - and it's probably one of the greatest inventions of this century.
-
Just because everyone is greedy doesn't mean we should embrace our basest behaviors. it's like saying yes we are all horny therefore masturbating in the middle of a public street is fine.
-
The reason Friedman is a giant in the world of economics is because he
does not just work with theories in a vacuum of some office, he accounts
for human nature. This is Milton at his best. -
He is right, except I feel a lot of people are trying to get an answer from this which doesn't properly question their own reasoning behind the answer. Which is: Why in Today's world do we have such a great amount of power in such a small group of individuals who are, according to Milton's words, pursuing their own self-interests.
Answer is: Those individuals know the true power of working in a group and becoming a bigger entity. From the self-interest individual (father of Mafia; Bill Gates; use whatever real example to make this analogy work) into a conglomerate of ideas of others combined to give 1 true future: Power among st all/World Order.
Power first starts with 1; then spreads out in their neighborhoods and finally nation by nation until you reach final status: Globalization.
There it is folks, you can become the next Leader of the world (if you dont get assassinated by the already increasingly amount of groups out there trying to play the game of power) -
I almost had a heart attack. Phil Donahue scared the shit out of me!
-
Damn, this response was so perfect that, when I die, I want this to be played in loops at my funeral

"The great achievements have not come from governments."
Vaccination, polio eradication, interstate freeways, federal disaster relief, THE GOD DAMNED SATURN V PROJECT, defeating the Nazis, public education, workplace safety, pollution controls...feel free to add to the list. This stupid motherfucker uses General Relativity as proof that...greed is good? Holy shit, what a fraudulent asshole. Thanks for ruining the economic prospects of generations following the Boomers by inflating asset prices with unlimited money printing, you fucking moron. -
Donahue!
-
I wonder how many liberal-bashers are liberals who'd simply distanced themselves from extreme-liberals.
-
Donahue is under the impression that greed can somehow be eradicated by socialism or communism, all those do is give greed to and power to the bureaucrats
-
Einstein and all the other examples of people pursuing their own interests were geniuses, and they were willing to apply their intelligence for the good of their own society. These geniuses don't apply to the American population because they pursued an idea, not a product. Therefore, there can be no greed involved when they pursue their goals. In America, you have the freedom to pursue your own interest. That's great. But that freedom is extended to point where quantity is valued over quality. Companies are completely taking out rain forests just so they can get that palm oil to keep making their food which has 95% profit rate. Is it really a great thing when you are allowed to take measures that destroy a whole ecosystem just so you can have people buy the bag of chips you produce. Capitalism is great because there is no corruption with the government, but if it is unrestricted we will screw ourselves.
-
Einstein "invented" theory in bureaucratic Bern patent bureau, Ford not invented engine or car all labor was run by Tailor and Fayol bureaucratic principles, war in Vietnam was run by technocratic principle of McNamara (one of boss of Ford company) body count winning, so Milton Freedman economist always wrong, neo-liberalism breaks workers spine.

"The great achievements of civilization have not come from government bureaus."
A half truth.
The "great achievements" needed a platform.
It was called "Civilisation". Order. & that was created by the fore runners of what we call governments today.
The 3 levels of government protect the source of "Great achievements"
