Economy | Information | History | Online | Facts | World | Global | Money
http://Mises.org The late great Murray Rothbard gave a series of lectures in 1986 at New York Polytechnic University entitled "The American Economy and the End of Laissez-Faire: 1870 to World War II." Fortunately for us, they were recorded by Hans Hermann-Hoppe. This opening lecture is entitled "The Civil War and Its Legacy." Audio for the entire lecture series can be found here: http://mises.org/media.aspx?action=category&ID=217

I want to hear what he is saying about democratic party being about liberty, but if he is talking about the civil war it is hard to make that case if the democrats were not giving my ancestors freedom. It took the abolitionist movement and a Republican president to free the slaves.

More then ever. I wish Murray Rothbard was alive. Put both Trump and Clinton, Johnson in their places.
-
how is it Grant thought it reasonable to purchase a slave, in 1858, to work his Missouri farm, when there were many thousands of immigrant Germans and Irish flooding St. Louis? Why would you purchase the labor of an African, taking legal responsibility for him 24/7, when you hire an Irishman for the day?

USE AUDACITY TO ELIMINATE THE HIGH PITCH!!!!

just curious, was he a smoker or did he have a cold? It's pretty annoying :P Great lecture though.

Hey

For those of you who are not captivated by Murray's voice, you should start by reading some of his work. After this, you will be truly grateful to be able to hear so many recordings from one of the greatest economists of all time

I'm on my 3rd time through this lecture series and it's just so informative! -BTW, the rest of the lectures can be found on Mises.org. There are 13 in all. Good stuff!

Great video. Definitely going to finish this later.

To anyone interested in Rothbard's other work (all very good), here are a few suggestions:
Lecture Series..
1. Austrian Economics
2. History of Economic Thought
3. History of Money and Banking
Book..
1. The Case Against The Fed (used to be an audiobook version on youtube, may still be up)
Individual Lectures..
1. Keynes: Hero or Villian (hilarious!)
2. Americas Two Just Wars (spoiler alert: they are the Revolution and The Civil War... For the South!)
Once I stumbled upon Murray Rothbard I couldnt get enough and spent 3 or 4 months reading and listening to everything I could find.. And Im a better man for it. Highly recommend his work. -
Whoa, not what I expected his voice to sound like.
-
Wonderful economist. Horrible voice. Not very much useful video when you can just listen to it... But thanks for uploading it, nonetheless. :)

I think i can clean up the audio in this lecture series.
-
The contemporary news story Murray is telling 4:30 minutes in makes me think he sees the thymological aspects of economic history like a Scorsese film.
-
This has been great, thanks for posting. I am listening again to catch the names of the textbooks he used.
-
Which one of this series is the lecture where Rothbard goes into how the US Government positioned itself into World War 1? I swear it's one of these.
-
Wish our elected would listen to lectures like this, but it would not be in their best interest.
